Basically what are they exactly and how do their chains work. I think it's magnetic.
Where they built? Are they animals?
Many have said they're a metal ball, what do yu think?

I actually think they're animals with extremely tough, hard carapaces. They act like dogs, which gives them a natural feel. I think the chains are magnetic, and that they are magnetically attracted to each other and the Chomp's body.

Could the chomps have a high-metal exoskeleton?

Probably. I think the exoskeleton idea is good. That makes them kind of insect-like.

I wonder how they propel themselves? They seem to just bounce around.

Mabey their hollow or full of air.

Mabe they're just able to rapidly thrust themselves downward. It looks like they'd be heavy.

How would they get up to thrust themselves downward if their heavy?

Maybe they're strong enough to do so.

I know it's a cheap way out, but with such a drastic life-form as a chain-chomp, I'm gonna have to go with the mage-spawn theory.

Would that mean all of their insane movements are a result of magic?

Perhaps. Maybe they're too unstable. Fire-chomps seem to be much more in control, so maybe chain-chomps were the prototypes and fire-chomps were the final result?

Fire chomps? The guys from SMS?

Oh those guys. Are their names fire chomps? They seem too differnt to be related to chain chomps. And when you got the sick chain chomps in SMS wet they turned small and white.

They turned white? Hmm, I'll have to play the game again.
But anyway, I'm pretty sure the SMB3 things were called fire-chomps. As for them being related to chain-chomps, it was only a theory.

They turned white and shrank considerably.

Considering their similar names, it would appear they were meant to be related. Yeah, I'd say that Chain Chomps are a more primitive version of the Fire Chomps. The Chain Chomps look mechanical while the Fire Chomps look magical, so maybe that's the difference.

Hmm, the fire chomps could have been condured up and made to be an obstruction for Mario.
The Chain Chomps (as far as I know) have never been mentioned as being mechanical. And I don't think they've ever sounded mechanical either. They just have hard black skin/exoskeloton/outer protection.
