I stick with my brainwashing theory.

Now that I think about it the brainwashing theory would make sense. But wouldn't goombas not enlisted have noticed? Or any other charecter noticed?

Just because you're brainwashed doesn't mean your IQ suffers. I remember a few parts in PM:TTYD in which normal Goombas and Paragoombas spoke English. Creatures need quite some brainpower to communicate verbally.
And if you think it's canon, they're smart enough to play baseball.

Remember, though, that Mario lived in America (New York) for a large part of his life, so he probably speaks English or Italian. I don't really see how this point relates to the topic at hand, though.

well to be frank we dont really know if wat they speak in the mushroom world is truely englishbecause mario ariginated in japan remember Well, there are a few instances that show that English may not be the only languages in the Mushroom world. For instance, if you look at some of the signs in Mario Sunshine, they seem to be written in some other language (I'm not talking about the little ones hanging above the buildings but the ones like the sign directly behind where you start in Bianco hills or the sign above pinna park that says what looks like "padoo") Also I recall from a certain "choose your own adventure" book something about a language called Koopanese. One more thing, if you listen to various non-human characters in the platforming games, you here them make noises that are translated by the text box. For instance, the bob-omb from Mario 64 or the giant blooper from PM2. (sorry 4 the long post! ) -------------------- EDIT: Ok I found it: "Ahead of him, a huge marble staircase sweeps up to the second floor of Fort Koopa. A sign on the wall seems to have directions on it-but it's written in Koopanese! "Swell," Mario mutters. "I left my Koopanese dictionary at home." His only other choice is to head for the end of the hall. The squishing sound of Bowser's feet grows louder behind him. Bowser is gaining! Which way should Mario go? Decode this Koopanese message to see which way Mario should go. Mario doesn't have a clue-but you do. Use the chart below to learn the letters of the Koopabet."

We made a huge deal of this in another thread ( probably the Yoshi one ) they speak english drop it.
I mean that why would goombas want to enlist if they knew they would be brainwashed?

i dont think they would know but i dont think that bowser would have to do any brainwashing they would enlist when bowser asked them if they wanted to get back at the toads they enlisted for revenge

Here's an idea. Maybe they're like Stromtroopers: not brainwashed, but trained vigorously for ultimate alleigence and severly punished for disobeying orders, including just running stupidly at a hero.

Yes but which one....
And anyway I realised this isn't really realavent to anything. There's good Goombas and good Koopas. A lot of them went bad. Those are the facts.

Facts are facts. But the point is that we're trying to come up with a resonable explination for those facts. That's the point of the site's existence, right?
