Here it is, the thread where we can discuss, argue, and share theories on the history of the Mushroom World. This may include, but is not limited to, the distant to recent past and the distant to near future. I'm going to sticky this so we don't have to go scrounging through all the older threads to find bits and pieces of info and theories. I believe I'll start things off here with my theory of the war that determined alot of factors for the games.
I use this theory to explain the lack of a formal military for either the Mushroom Kingdom or the Koopa Klan in the first few games. I basically believe that in the time before Yoshi's Island the Koopa Klan consisted of the standard Koopa Troopa type race who were then the inhabitants of Dark Land. Dark Land, which we can see from SMB3, is lacking in natural resources such as food and water. And so, the Koopa Klan launches an invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom in order to colonize more fertile lands. Fortunately, the Mushroom Kingdom is able to fend off the invasion force and launches a massive counter-attack against the Klan's home country of Dark Land. After a long campaign, with many casualties, the Mushroom Kingdom's forces eventually claim victory over the Koopa Klan, leaving them with nothing but a few abandoned castles, some small remnants of the once powerful Magikoopa Guild, and a sole heir to the throne, who was then only an infant: Bowser. However, the Mushroom Kingdom's military force was all but devasted in battle as well.
Not long after the war, Kamek had begun to rebuild the Klan piece by piece. However, it was around this time that he had the vision of the two twins who would lead to the true downfall of the Koopa Klan, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island takes place. After the first defeat of Bowser, the Koopa Klan takes what little forces it has rebuilt and attempts to commit the mass genocide of all humans, believing that he would eventually kill the twins in the process. However, it was too late and the Mushroom Kingdom had already sent the babies Mario and Luigi to Earth in order to keep them from harm. Kamek and the new Koopa Klan succeed in the cleansing of all humans from the land, and after several years of quiet (during which Yoshi's Story takes place), they believe that they had indeed killed the two children.
Eventually, the rebuilt Koopa Klan, which mainly consists of feral Koopas who had been tamed and Goombas who had rebelled from under Mushroom rule, attempts to attack the Mushroom Kingdom again and succeeds in capturing Princess Toadstool. Luckily, the Mario Brothers had returned from Earth, just as the prophecy had foretold.
Anyway, that's my theory. I know it needs alot of work, but that's why I made this thread.
