Perhaps the goombas in Bowser's army are even brainwashed into being mindless drones. That might be why they charge headlong into battle with seemingly no consideration of the consequences.

When Bowser started taking over most of them joined his side. The ones that stayed grew up and lived in-
Goomba Village Koopa Village The flower koopa place in PM2 and some other areas.

I meant they were brainewashed after joining him. They joined willfully thinking they would get better treatment, but just ended up becoming slaves. That might also explain why they all look exactly the same, like kind of a communist society; erase all distinguishing featers and brainwash them into having the Koopa Klan mindset. No individuality, no free will, just obedient soldiers/slaves.

Good idea, Kamikaze. But I wonder why they would leave for Bowser in the first place. Surely the Mushroom Kingdom treated them fairly. The Goombas living there now seem to be very content. Maybe only the warlike ones joined (a small number), and from them a whole army was bred (or possibly cloned).

Well, there are alot of possibilities that could have led up to it. It could be that that the Mushroom Kingdom mistreated the goombas (i.e. indentured servitude, etc.) and that's what made them revolt, or it might be the case that the majority of the goombas simply thought that Bowser was going to topple the Mushroom Kingdom and would rather be on the winning side.

Hmm, I really can't see the Mushroom Kingdom instituting indentured servitude on an entire race; such a thing probably exists in the Mushroom Kingdom, but most likely not in this way. I like your second explanation. I guess the Goombas didn't count on the Mario Bros. showing up.

id more agree with your second one too i like my theoree that the goombas were treated badly because they were the defect of perfection in the perfect mushroom world (the story of the world we live in) cuasing themto be down looked upon but with theyre imperfection they had strength and werent very smart and the toads used them as slaves one goomba got smart to this and dicided to start a revolt starting the great goomba war ill include this as a short story called The Great Goomba War which will be posted after my story mario and the golden mushroom

Goombas just seem too pathetic to do anything.
Wait...
OMFG!!!! What if this is like the plot in Star Wars 3!? Stay with me on this one... Bowser is like Palpatine and he wants all the Goombas ( droids ) to kill Mario ( jedi ). But in actuality Bowser just wants Mario to kill all the Goombas cus if Bowser tried to kill the Goombas they would outrank him 10 to 1...
Since the Goombas didn't kill Mario Bowser still uses them...
I just pulled that out of my @$$ yet it fits just about perfectly....

Something tells me that Bowser could easily kick the snot out of any number of goombas. Unless they charge him by the thousands or something.

No, Bowser would smush the Goombas no problem. But maybe there's a political reason. And we do know Goombas have some degree of intelligence because some wear spiked hats in the Paper Marios.

The helmets don't mean anything. I can put a football helmet on a dog, but it doesn't mean he plays football.

The goombas do pretty much out number the koopas by a lot.

The helmets don't mean anything. Well, they did prevent jump attacks for a while.

I just meant that it doesn't mean anything in regards to intelligence. I mean, Bowser probably saw that the goombas would head-butt things anyway, so he just threw some spiked helmets on them since he figured they could do more damage that way.

Well, they build villages and conduct themselves like normal, intelligent creatures.
One of my favorite Mario characters is a Goomba--Goombella.

*shakes head* I meant that Bowser's minions are unintelligent, not the normal ones.

They must not get an education when they're with Bowser.
