I know most people accept that they are completely human and all that, infact people sound pretty insulted when I suggest that maybe there's more to them than that... I've put a lot of thought to this..What if Mario and Luigi were part of an obscure human subspecies? I mean: They have these unique abilities that seem to come completely natural to them, they have these pretty cute natural tendencies (have you ever noticed their love for heights..?) and one more thing... I would have never considered this If it weren't for Il Piantissimo...his presence in the Mario Sunshine Game really perplexed me and I find him fascinating. He had the exact same abilities as Mario did, down to the t...People don't seem to really consider or acknowledge this though, and to everyone it seems he was just some guy you race in Mario Sunshine...never shedding a thought... Just something you may want to consider, Put aside your Brooklyn belief here, or at the very least don't let that belief sway your opinion. Similarities between Piantissimo And the Mario Bros : Jumping ability Running speed (Mario only wins cause he cheats ) Competitive nature Love of heights Same height between Mario and Piantissimo Eccentric (Their strange dressing habits >__O) Something you ought to consider is all. I would have put this in the New forum but this is more of a question of race not character....though race does have a lot to do with character.

I still consider them entirely human. Although theres no doubt they have some weird super power type...thing. As for Piantissimo, I think he dresses the way he dose in order to blend in with the rest of the piantas (though no very well...) But he's most likely human. A love for heights? well I wouldn't really call it a love more of just something the can do. If you watch some of the old Mario cartoons (especially Super Show) there's quite a few instances the show Luigi being afraid of being up high (and afraid of everything else too for that matter...)

But in Paper mario he just casually sits atop a floating block. He's not afraid of heights, and imho The Super show is rubbish EDIT: And anyhow I'm still saying they're human...compleatly human infact, They're an offshoot..you know...a different race of humans. And anyhow, they're countless Mario races in that verse, so I really dont see why not.

O__o
Huh?
Are you saying it's a good thing Mario and Luigi are small and that means they can fit on that planet?

That's because of warp pipes and such.
As for Mario and Luigi being human, I've often wondered that myself; the same goes for Il Piantissimo. I've always considered the Mario Bros to have been altered via magic from conception, although still to be human. Il Piantissimo likely could have found other means to give him such abilities; an enchantment or some such. I think the more interesting argument for them being a human subspecies is that of Wario and Waluigi. If the five of them (Mario Bros, Wario Bros, Piantissimo) really are all the same race, then what are they? We might have to throw Peach into the mix too.

A lot of the "abilities" can just be for the video games.
Piantissimo has all Mario's abilities, soooo? Running fast.
Luigi in Paper Mario was on a block like 10 feet off the ground that's not very high.
Piantissimo is his own species which could be any form of human since they don't show his face.

Boy you abandon the fun of speculation at the most unfortunate of times. This is supposed to be Mariology, we should take phenomenons such as Piantissimo into consideration, not shrug it off. And I dont think Peach would be part of this race. SHe's just a plain old human. Along with daisy.

I like Kamikaze's idea of them being magically altered at birth. Perhaps the same thing happened to Il Piantissimo. The Wario bros. look like elves or something, however.

They probably just have weird ears. Or they had surgery.
How would the bros. be altered?

I don't think they were altered at birth, I think it was the presence of greed and evil that disfigured them. Kinda like Gollum in LOTR.
