I've always believed that hammer brothers and boomerang brothers are the same thing. In SMB3 and the cartoon, their physical appearance seems to be identical with their weapon being the only difference. My belief is that both are the same species and are of sub-species of Koopa Troopa. Sledge Brothers and Fire Brothers are obviously different species but the hammer and boomerang brothers are not.
Any ideas on this?

Hmm, I think the different types of hammer bros. are the same spices as a regular koopa. They probably get armor and weapons when they advance in rank to a certain level, thus becoming the elite soldiers of the koopa troop.

I don't really think hammer brothers are the same species as troopas, the look larger, come in various colors and their face is slightly different. I do belive all the differen't types of "brothers" are of the same species, the just choose which wepon the want to specialize in.

The thing with Fire Bros. sporting a tan seemed to be a one-off, because the Fire Bros. in games other tham SMB3 are normal-coloured.

They are much larger than the rest of the "brothers". This leads me to another question: Are Sledge Brothers and Chargin Chucks the same thing?

Nope, Chargin' chucks are completely different.
Hammer Bros. have flesh colored skin, boomerang bros. have green skin. Both can use either weapon.

Charg'n chucks always reminded me a bit of boom-booms, with there black shells and dark skin. Only CCs don't have spikes.

I don't think skin color matters very much when it come to what wepon the use, exept for mabey red fire bros.

Skin color is most likely due to heredity. It seems like most of those koopas like to follow in their parent's footsteps, so some traits, like skin color, either by accident/coincedince or by addaptation to the family skill would be passed down through the generations.

Everyone assumes that different types of koopas are different species, but they are all the same species.

Can't we just call them subspecies?

Humans don't have subspecies.

Humans? I thought we were talking about koopas.

We were, I'm just saying that if humans don't have subspecies, neither should koopas.
