They semm like subspecies. They can all be considered "koopas" but they branch off into different types of koopa.

Yeah, don't forget that there were human sub-species known as Neanderthals.
Anyway, yes there are different types of Koopas. They [probably go into these sort of categories:
1) Koopa Troopa, Paratroopa, Super Koopa, Sky Troopa (I think this creature from SMRPG may be the same as Paratroopa)
2) Hammer Brother, Boomerang Brother, Fire Brother
3) Sledge Brother, Chargin Chuck, Sumo Brother
4) Koopatrol, Terrapin
And maybe a few others, which I may have missed

Hamer bros and their subtypes are most likely just regular koopas speshialy trained in their areas. Terapins and koopatrols are probobly just koopas in armor. chargin chucks are koopas in football uniform(mario football).

There's a Mario football game !? Well if I were going with Super Mario world I'd say chargin chucks where a seperate subspecies. Mario Football?!?! It could be that there are different types of chargin chucks, after all, anny koopa could put on a football uniform right? Maby the onse from SMW are sumo brose or more likely, some kin of boomboom. Mario Football?!?!?!

No, it was just a joke. But if they do make mario football(you know they will) they should put chargin chucks in it, I'm still disapointed that they didn't put the baceball boys(from YI) in mario superstar baceball. Anyway, while it's true that chargin chucks are bigger than regular koopas, you must remember that football players on our world are huge.

But there not all football players. Some of them throw baseballs, whistle, jump, shovel, and do other things.

The only football thing they have on is a helmet. And I guess you might consider the star on their shell football too but other than that, just a helmet. It could be a baseball helmet. :/

Accually, The throw baseballs, kick footballs, jump in the air and clap and in a few levels, they dig up rock with shovels.
