We have the tanooki leaf, we have the tanooki suit, we even have the tanoomba, but how come we never see any tanookis? the ONLY appearance a tanooki has ever made in a Mario game was the boat house in Noki Bay and inside the building that leads to Ricco harbor in Super Mario Sunshine. This cameo is so small, I didn't even realize they were tanookis until I read an on line strategy guide for the game. You would think with all the the times there likeness has shown up, we would see them a little more often...

I always figured that all the tanooki items were made from harvesting tanoombas.

Actually, I heard from somewhere that tanookis are mythical creatures that resemble raccoons whose power comes from magical leaves.

The tanuki is a mythical creature in Japanese folk lore and the obvious inspiration for the Mario power ups. I'm not 100% sure but I think the spelling of the Japanese animal uses a "u" while the Mario power ups use an "oo" Anyway, the suit couln't come from tanoombas because the suits have arms also, if you look at the suit, it seems to look more racoon shaped than goomba shaped.

As far as I know, the Tanooki suit is just like the Raccoon suit but with the Statue ability.

Well, the leaf activates the Raccoon ability, right?

Why is the tanooki suit overrated?

what does overrated or underrated mean
the tanooki suit is awesome though

Overrated means people make too big of a deal out of something when it's really nothing special, and underrated means the exact opposite; people don't make a big enough deal out of something that's totally awesome.

Too bad that when you lose the Tanooki suit it takes a while to get a new unlike the leaf
