I know I estimated the unoctagon areas. It would still be less than a mile.

Ok... what happened to my post...
From the left most area by Goomba Village to Dry Dry Outpost is about 4560ft. ( if Mario's about 2 feet wide ).

If you see it's Dry Dry Outpost.
The most west is in the area where you first meet that Koopa Jr. kid left of Goomba Village.

Less than a mile seems too short for that large of an area.
How long did it take you to measure all of that, Yoshi Mastar?

It's always possible that there's a lot of area that we don't see during gameplay. Example: maybe there's really 256 sections in Dry Dry Desert but only 49 matter to gameplay.

Mario couldn't have survived that.

Goombario had infinite complaints about the heat, but did he survive? Yes.

well there is unessecary areas that have nothing, not even a hiddin block,I'd say there is as many areas as there is in the game. to contradict your post, toomai, the desert is very hot. You would complain too, trust me

You have to remember, on the map screen, it clearly shows that Mario took an almost direct path to Dry Dry Outpost. We could assume that he only deviated form this path by up to 7 sections. This would make Dry Dry Desert much bigger, like a real desert would be. The only reason it would seem small is because most of the sections were left unexplored.

Now that I look at the map again, it shows the oasis and the Ruins in correct spots as if the desert picture were the same size as the 7x7 game grid.

I'd say the "unexplored areas" explanation is the most reasonable.

You know Dry Dry Outpost could be more around the "middle" of the desert.
( the 7x7 grid is left alone but the desert continues to the right, he wouldn't have to go through the whole desert because Dry Dry ruins is apart of the grid, if you get my meaning )
