The Bros. have always been associated with Brooklyn in some way.

One of the most widely excepted theories is that the Mario bros. were born in the Mushroom Kingdom and then, due to the threat of Kamek and the rest of the Koopa Klan, fled to the real world with there parents where thew grew up having no idea the Mushroom World ever existed and then one day when they were fixing a drain pipe they fell in blah, blah, blah etcetera you know the rest of the story. ------------- My personally theory along with this, is that after the brothers and they're family left, there was some sort of mas extinction of humans (possibly the Koopa Klan's fault?) This is why very few humans (or humans type creatures) remain in the Mushroom World

My thoughts where the Crystal King transported most of the humans. Mario's parents where left behind because Mario's dad was a hero and the Mushroom World needed help.

Mario's dad was a hero and the Mushroom World needed help. ...you know it's weird I've often thought that too. Perhaps the Mario brothers aren't the first superstars (by that I mean extra strong, able to jump high use, power ups, etc.) Maybe theres been a long line of people protecting the Mushroom Kingdom from the koopas...

Now wouldn't that be an interesting story:
"Mario is fed up with family traditions. He wants a life of his own, to be in control of his own destiny. He's tires of the damsel in distress..."

I think you guys are on to something. Maybe the Mushroom Kingdom has such a meager military because they've always depended on superstars to save the kingdom. And Mario's father was one of these superstars.

That would explain why the Yoshi Island Parents called the Brothers heroes.
Interesting...

This brings up another question.
The bros. were shown at the beginning of Yoshi's Island to have been delivered to their parents by storks. Does this mean they're actually not the offspring of their parents?

They just didn't want to show the bloody graphic birth that actually took place. I hear twin births can have many complications. Maybe they were kidnapped after they were born?
And Mastar, they do have some sort of dialogue, It says "Our heroes are born" In the caption, which is 2nd person, not third.
I never thought of them doing this princess thing as a sort of service....this has a host of interesting Ideas. One day Mario is told to do something really ridiculous (Donkey Kong stealing the Mechanical Mario toys doesn't seem like an urgent need to me.... ), the princess taking him for granted and taking advantage...Maybe even the princess betrayin' him..
Very interesting Fan fiction ideas at the very least. What if the princess, in a fan fic..would order they do testing on Luigi to see their secrets...
huh.

I think this whole hero thing needs to be made into a separate topic, considering this is such an interesting idea. It would make an excellent fanfic too. I'd write it my self but, I stink at writing stories. XP ------------ On a side note, the brothers had to be delivered by the stork, or else the Yoshi's Island storyline couldn't exist. The stork plays an important part in the story. Without him, the story wouldn't take place where it did.

We have to explain why the babies were delivered by stork. I say they were birthed at a hospital, stayed there for a few days, and then were delivered to their parents via stork.

Has anybody ever considered the possibility that maybe the twins were never born at all, so much as created? Perhaps the stork was delivering them to the surrogate parents after said creation?
OR!
Perhaps the twin's original parents were in a neighboring country or town and were killed in a Koopa Klan raid in order to find the twins. But just before they died, they sent them away using the stork.
*shrug* Just theories.

Of course, that's what's implied. It's all supposed to be a very "storybook" kind of setting. The problem is that we have to explain it away realistically in terms of Mariology.

Very possible and even justified in SMW. The Magikoopas have the ability to generate Koopa Troopas from ordinary blocks, suggesting that maybe they're all like that.
