One of my biggest quesitons concerning the cultures, races, and developement of the Marioverse: is it inhabited by humans or not? There are numerous accounts of humans contact throughout the Marioverse, the most questionable of which are the Mario brother's parents. At the end of Yoshi's Island we see only the arms and legs of the individuals we assume are the mother and father of Mario and Luigi, and we can see relatively clearly that they do not resemble the limbs of Toads. More human encounters include Il Piantissimo (sp?) from Super Mario Sunshine, Captain Syrup from the Wario Land series, and Prof. Elvin Gadd who first appeared in Luigi's Mansion. Now the question is, were these people born in the Marioverse or did they simply come through from the real world as Mario and Luigi did. I'll work on putting up pictures of said people before the end of the day.

Well, i don't know. I wouldn't buy it if the brotheres were the only ones to venture through the pipes. Perhaps an increased breeding rate has let humans thrive better in the marioverse. Don't forget some of the people in Warioware.

I think there're just too many people in the Mushroom Dimension to believe they all came through the few obscure pipes leading to the dimension. From what we've seen of the residents of Diamond City, I don't think it would be farfetched to believe that a large number of humans live in the city. And obviously there are humans in the smaller villages, as indicated by Yoshi's Island end cutscene.

In the Super Mario World show their are cave men in Dinosaur land. Since these people have lived in a prehistoric area, they probably havn't made any major inventions.

I believe humans are native to the Mushroom World, but they're very rare. One things that stikes me as odd are the Twilight Towns people. They called themselves humans. They certainly don't look human to me. Maybe they're some kind of subspecies of human?

Ah yes, I remember seeing those pics. Thanks, Claws. So is Twighlight Town above ground, or under?

It's above ground, on the outskirts of some very creepy woods. And it's perpetually dusk there, too.

Ahh, I see. Perhaps they're a sub-species of humans? Maybe they're ancestors settled there several generations back and they just evolved to be that way?

I think they're slightly deformed humans.

Deformed from what?

Magic maybe? Perhaps an effect of the constant darkness that they're exposed to?

Yeah, there's obviously evil in the air in Twilight Town, so I'd say it's transformed the townsfolk at least a little.

I just meant darkness as in lack of light. I'm not sure how long they've inhabited that area, but they might have adapted to those living conditions.

Still, though, I'd say black magic is involved.

I don't personally think that the Mario Bros came from pipes in the first place, it seems to me that they were born in raised strictly in the Mushroom kingdom. There are humans in the Mario Verse, they're aren't common though.
And does no one notice the similarities between Mario, Luigi, and Piantissimo? They all have the same abilities. I've always assumed that Mario and Luigi themselves were a human subspecies. Maybe even Toads are too.
