And that's Super Mario! Regular Mario (or Half-Size Mario according to the newer games) is REALLY tiny. Oh, wait, this one is interesting. Half-Size Mario is exactly the size of one block (brick, question, etc.) So the blocks are 77,5 cm tall if Mario is 5 feet 1 inch.

Regular Mario isn't Mario's regular height though. (You can tell, his whole body seems scrunched together like an accordion) The funny thing is, if that was his regualar height, even when he doubles in size, I'm still bigger than him

Yeah... the name "Regular Mario" became obsolete with Super Mario 64. I propose we're calling him "Small Mario" or something.

The low line is at 55 pixels. The red line (155 cm) is at 83 pixels (28 above the low line). The high line is at 143 pixels (60 above the red line).
So 1 pixel ~ 1.87 cm, so Toads are about 103 cm (3'4") and Bowser is about 267 cm (8'9").

The high line is 50 pixels above the red line, not 60!

Actually, that was really Mario's regular size. He went back to that size in SMG and SMG2.
Before SM64, Mario was of the size of a block (or rather the block were of the size of Mario, he's the only character with a known size). Then in SM64 the transition to the new size chart happened: blocks were still in the game (they didn't float though) and smaller blocks appeared. Then since then a block is smaller than Mario, Bowser is smaller, the universe is smaller (that's the new size chart). However in SMG and SMG2 there's a mix of the old and the new size charts: a block is of Mario's size, a Goomba is almost taller than Mario, Bowser is extremely big, but Peach is still a bit taller than Mario, Toads are smaller than Mario, etc...
As for "small" Mario in NSMB and NSMBW, it's more like a cartoon way to show you're weaker.

I think it's SMG trying to show us how gigantic the world is by making Mario smaller. It's a cheap trick, like filming a short dictator standing on a shoebox or letting a small knight ride a pony and filming it from below.

We're both wrong. It's 59 pixels, at least on my copy of the size chart.

I was under the assumption you used the same copy that was posted here. Sorry, that was confusing. As long as the red line divides the space between the grey lines with the ratio 1:2, it's OK.

I thought I was using the same copy too! I didn't think there were that many copies of the straightened out size chart floating around (an older copy used a sloping base line).

I really love this chart because it's the only place you can see some characters standing in a non-dynamic pose. All those twists and tweaks in official art look nice, but make it a pain to draw them from other angles. This one is really helpful.

As stated before, I believe "Big" Mario in the 2D Games to be Normal Mario, and Small Mario to be under the influence of a Koopa Curse(See:NSMBDS Intro), one that can be Reversed via Super Mushroom. When the Curse is lifted from Mario(i.e. After he Wins), he returns to Normal, and eating a Super Mushroom will temporarily turn him into Super Mario(See:SM64).

He went small in the NSMB intro because Bowser Jr. threw a Green Shell at him, though.

How do you know that, he goes off Camera?

Well, obiously Bowser Jr. hit him somehow, and it wasn't fire, so either Mario was just stupid and ran into him, or it was a green shell.

Or he used Magic... Why is that any less likely than a Green Shell, let alone one that we don't see?

Because he never uses magic in the game? Why should he use it to hit Mario once, off-screen, while they aren't even battling?!

Because it's an easy way to hit someone while one of you Hands is busy carrying a Princess a couple of Feet taller than you. PLUS, we never see a Green Shell. Besides, even so, my Theory of a "Cursed Mario" is unaffected by this.

He either ran smack into him or threw a shell at him.
