I'm thinking this would probably go under the Biology section since it has to do with the individual characters anatomies and physiologies.
Anyway, I wanted there to be a place to discuss the actual size of the characters in the Marioverse (and DKverse for that matter, since I think they're intertwined ^_^). For example, how tall is Mario? What about with a Super Mushroom? How big is Bowser, really? Stuff like that.
Ok then, let's start out with the very basics. How tall are Mario and Luigi? This one's gonna be a toughy, because they never really tell you anything specifically, and everything else is probably gonna be based off the height of these two characters. I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say that Mario is maybe...I dunno, five feet tall? I know it seems kinda short, but let's face it; he's a short guy.

Maybe five feet and two inches, I don't know. Luigi would probably be several inches taller--maybe six feet and six inches? It's hard to estimate without a specimen in front of me. Bowser's height is a little more difficult. We've seen him large (SM64) and small (Mario Kart Double Dash, Paper Mario, etc.). I'm thinking he was just enlarged with magic in SM64. Maybe he's... seven feet tall? He's also very large in diameter.

Hmmm, that's pretty good, YoshiMastar. I tend to think that shyguys are a little smaller than koopas, though.

I have a few adjustments to YM's measurements to fit my oppinion.
Short Mario/Luigi - 3' 8"
Mario - 5' 3" With Mushroom - 5'10"
Luigi - 5' 10" With Mushroom - 5'10"
Peach - 6' 1"
Yoshi - 5' 11.5"
Toad - 3' 8"
The rest I agree with... / Am too lazy to type 'em out.
The reason that Peach is suggested taller here is because, In every game I've compared her to Luigi and she seems a bit taller in some. Yoshi was in between those two. Toad seems a bit taller than I've got him as, but I dunno. So yeah...

I don't think Yoshi is so tall--I was thinking he was only the same height as Mario.

He seems to be that way now. Back when he first appeared he was actually pretty big; if you compare the sprites in SMW and SM64, Yoshi was alot taller than Mario. Now, however, Nintendo seems to have made the decision to shrink him down. Perhaps his ascension from "beast of burden" to "main character" had something to do with it.

Remember though, Yoshi needs to be big enough to fit Mario on his back.

He can still fit on his back, as is illustrated in Super Mario Sunshine.

It doesn't really look like Mario can stay on Yoshi in that game. I think they made his tail too small or something.

The problems with the yoshis in Mario Sunshine are that they're too small, as well as upright. Originally, yoshi was always kind of hunched over, allowing Mario to sit on him perfectly. Now, however, the yoshis seem to stand more upright, making Mario have to cling onto their backs in order to ride them.

Their can be several differnt kinds of breeds of Yoshi's.
And making him seem more upright is better cus he doesn't look so animalish.

I like the more upright styling of the Yoshis better too. But how do we explain Yoshi going from large to small? Is it just an artistic difference? Is this something we can explain that way?

I agree that it could be many different breeds of yoshi, but the one problem I have is that the main Yoshi, the one that seems to be part of the team now, randomly switches between all these different breeds. At first he was large a more hunched over, now he's small and upright.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Could we dismiss that as artistic discrepancy, or must we explain it?

lol I'm personally not gonna dismiss it. You guys don't have to participate, though; I'll do this one on my own.

The smaller Yoshi's in Sunshine as I think your refering to is not actually the Yoshi Yoshi. All the Sunshine Yoshi's where hatched on the spot remember? Case closed.

But what about the one in SM64DS, Mario Party, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, etc. That Yoshi is very similar in size to the Sunshine one. Is this Yoshi the Yoshi?
