Nope, that's not me, and that doesn't look like Walkazo either (she uses a completely different classification system). A lot of the names ended up similar to mine, though.

Wow, this just proves we humans really think more similarly than we think we think. If that made sense.

I tried sorting Marioverse races into groups once. It went like so:
1. Fungus People (Toads, Goombas) 2. Koopas (see my thread) 3. Plant People (Beanish, Hoohooligans, Pianta, Bulb-ulbs, Floro Sapiens) 4. Mammals (Kongs, Humans, Squeeks, Mole Folk, Dolphins, Doogans, Ratooeys, Rabbits, Tanooki…) 5. Shy Guys 6. Dinosaurs (Yoshis and Birdos) 7. Fish (Cheep-Cheeps, Bloopers) 8. Bob-ombs and Thwomps 9. Kremlings (spp.) 10. Insects (Bees, Jabbies, Punies, Wigglers…) 11. Ghosts (Boos) 12. Avians (Bumpties, Ravens, Craw, Penguins) 13. Star Creatures (Lumas, Star Kids, Stars, Geno - see thread) 14. Ninjis 15. Fuzzies 16. Mollusk People (Noki, Ishnail, Winkles) 17. Nimbus People 18. Frogs 19. Shamans 20. Demons (Shadows, Duplighosts)
It needs work.

Do you think Punies are insects? I know all the other stuff they hate in the Boggly Tree (Jabbies, Piders) seem to be insects, but Punies have four legs. Their antennae are also not too insect-like, they are reminding of anglerfish, if anything. (Although, again, the Bees in SMG have four limbs, too. But then so do the Buzzy Beetles who are called beetles but aren't insects at all.)

Punies do remind me of insects, but then I noticed they have only 4 legs. But I can't think of what creature they remind me of more than a bug...maybe a lizard with no tail?

Why not a MW-only species ? It IS an alien planet after all.
And Toads aren't totally fungus, more like part mammal, part fungus.

I think they're mainly fungus in appearance. I mean, they have totally mammal-like families, and we've never heard of "Toad spores" or anything except their caps that would link them to fungi.

Actually we've seen twice that they have spores. Once in Mario Tennis (watch Toad's trophy scene on Youtube), once in Super Mario RPG (The Chancellor says his spores almost dropped when he heard Peach was kidnapped). But I don't think it's important to their devellopement or reproduction.

You're not an idiot. An idiot is someone who didn't knew there was a Mario Tennis on the N64 until the last month. I didn't kenw there was a Mario Tennis on the N64 until the last month. <_<
I wonder, can the Star Children really be considered as being what they are ? I mean, they got somewhat mutated by the star they've got... Their body wasn't mutated, but their spiritual and physical powers were, to the point where they've got awesome abilities like throwing fire from nowhere or having psychic powers. Then Mario wouldn't be human, but part-human part-star.

I'm an idiot for calling myself a Mario nerd and having a blog about being a Mario nerd and not remembering that.
And you're not an idiot because you know stuff!
Again, Mario doesn't throw fire from nowhere except in SSB (not canon), SMRPG (magic replaces items, as we previously discussed), and maybe some sports games, where it's fanservice. I will only believe that if I see a Nintendo, Alphadream or Intelligent Systems developed Mario ADVENTURE game where he can throw fireballs without an item.

I'm an idiot for saying you're not an idiot and for caring about nothing but a video game series. <_>
So, Mario would need an item or magic to... jump ? SMRPG's Special Attacks aren't called "Special" Attacks for a reason. Sure, they use "Magic Points" but the attacks themselves aren't (always) about magic or items. More like special abilities that are limited by points. And Mario is REPRESENTED by fire, anyway. I guess he doesn't use it in platformers and RPGs (or can't use them) because if you could fire up enemies at any time, it'd break the game. And other characters like Peach have powers too, so why not Mario ?

I'm an idiot for saying you're not an idiot Nice stealth insult! It's like shooting yourself with a gun that shoots backwards, hitting your opponent! Mario would need magic/items to do a Super Jump (basically a Power Bounce), so yes. The normal Jump is too high for him to be able to do by himself, either. I'm saying that Mario's power is using items very efficiently.

Why is there an argument going on trying to reduce MK biology to realistic models?
...Okay, so I started some of it, but the Koopas are most amenable to that sort of analysis, being reasonably realistic, not mixing multiple Earthly kingdoms of life, and prolific. Toads are only related to Goombas, Beanish might be related to anything by my Bean Fever theory, etc. You could tell me that MK Humans are a branch of Toads that touched the Frozen Flame and it would make as much sense as anything else in non-Koopa biology.

Is it at all possible that Shamans and Shy Guys are human, or at least human-like?
|
|
|
Post by Artemendo on Aug 18, 2010 15:50:18 GMT -5
Those would need to be some seriously deformed humans, and also, the Shamans - if we could Merlon's family - I mean, they used to be Shamans in PM, become increasingly distorted in SPM, made up of random shapes and stuff... while humans are still more-or-less connected and human-like.

Shy Guys might be distant relatives of humans - after all, there are those hobbit-sized fossils in Indonesia. Then again, they could be relatives of Boos for all I know.
