Return of Star Coins 3-D 1-1 apparently Goombas and Paragoombas (what would a mario game be without goombas?) Moving platforms A great dose of epicness

Is it just me, or does that "Star Coin" in the lower-right screen bear an uncanny resemblance to a Comet Medal?
Well, whatever. This seriously just made my day. I can't wait 'til E3 when we find out more, especially about that raccoon tail.
By the way, here's a short video of Iwata talking about the game:

So... which one of you was dissapointed and thought that there would be no news for Mario this year?

So it is confirmed then, this game is awesome sauce
EDIT: Wait a second... was that thing on Deviantart made today? Because if it is, I think we have a serious reason as to why to not trust it.

The YouTube video is dated March 2nd, so the tail in the logo is legitimate.

I don't know what you guys were worried about. It was obvious that they were going to put in the Racoon Suit.
...Still, it is refreshing to actually see a screencap of it.

Yes, I know it was obvious that the Raccoon Suit was in, but something about that picture seemed fake to me.

I can't wait for this game. Looks like they're finally going back to the SM64/SMS style adventures, IMO. I really love SMG, but after a while you get tired of the on-railsness of the games.

So basically, 2D Mario elements are worked into a 3D Mario game. This should be a good one. Also hoping for Yoshi to come back, if that's possible.
Cue complaint by cheat-master30 about how this game should not include any new characters because it would ruin the experience of the Mario series canon, or something along those lines.

Cue complaint by cheat-master30 about how this game should not include any new characters because it would ruin the experience of the Mario series canon, or something along those lines. Okay, this is just ridiculous. Keep your anger about what I said about your fan fic in the proper topic, especially as any complaints I have about this game have nothing to do with the characters. How could they? We don't even know if there are new characters in it, or even any returning ones! No. But I am concerned about the idea this game will used fixed camera angles. That seems like Luigi's Mansion and Wario World in style, and while both were arguably decent games, neither felt like a Mario game, and both only worked because their level design was based far less on platforming. But hey, maybe they'll actually find a way to use this camera style well, who knows?

Super Mario Galaxy seemed to have offered the least freedom in camera angling. Only a few parts in both games allowed to move it around however you wanted.
Seeing as this is done by the same team, that could inevitably be the case again here.

That's true, but those weren't fixed camera games, they had changeable camera angles and such like. You could almost always move the camera at least a bit, and if this is fixed camera view, it'd be even more limited.
Not sure I like that, it seems very much a bad idea if the past attempts to 'control' the camera is accurate. I just suspect it'll be used to screw people over when jumping.

it'll be used to screw people over when jumping. Oh, the stories I can tell. Especially with SM64.

Sunshine makes it even worse, what with the "blue-silhouette" crap.
Honestly, I'm the kind of guy that loses his bearings quite easily when playing a game, and stuff like that always ends up with me running around in circles, rapidly pressing the L button.
"WHERE AM I?! WHO SAID THAT?! ARE YOU A GHOST??"

I actually got used to fixing the camera in N64 games... and then OoT came along with its R IS SHIELD NOT CAMERA.

What really got me in Sunshine was that behind the walls, every "blue silhouette" besides Mario was all ?'s. Everything that isn't Mario.
