I'm actually really diggin' this. Though I'm kinda sad that the Yoshies don't have a culture.
A few burning questions I'd like to ask:
-Is Rosalina and the Lumas gonna factor in here somewhere? -What about the lands from Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2 and the various Wario games? -Is Wario and/or Waluigi even going to be in this? -What are you going to do about other villains such as Tatanga, Wart and Smithy? Well, I'm glad that you're liking it. I'll try to put up some more as soon as I can. =) And I can understand where you're coming from, in regards to the Yoshis. It was a pretty tough decision for me. But, I think it's for the best. Also, here are the answers to your questions, in order: - The jury's still out, as far as Rosalina is concerned. I'm still trying to find a way to squeeze her into the story. But, I'm not sure yet. As I said earlier, Lumas aren't going to be in the story. But, the Star Sprites (at least, my version of them) are going to be sentient beings, like Lumas, that look exactly like Power Stars (from Super Mario 64). So, in a way, they're the same. - Kitchen Island will not play a role in my story. Neither will any of the locations from Super Mario Land 2. - The Wario Bros. will be in my story (to what extent, I'm not yet sure). The story begins in Brooklyn, following the Mario Bros. as they try to cope with their struggling plumbing business. The reason their business has fallen on hard times is because they're being outdone by their competitors: Wario Bros. Plumbing. The question is: Will I have Wario and Waluigi eventually follow the Mario Bros. into the Mushroom Kingdom? Only time will tell, I suppose... - Bowser and, later, the Queen of Shadows (along with the Shadow Sirens) are the only primary antagonists in my fan-fic. Tatanga, Wart, and Smithy won't be present. A general note to everyone who's keeping up with all of this: As much as I love the Mario series in its entirety, I realized that, in order to make this story accessible to everyone, I had to make a few sacrifices. I can't incorporate everything that's ever been in a Mario game into it. That would make things very messy (and a bit too "fanservicey", in my opinion). My goal is to take the heart and soul of the Mario series and set that over the backdrop of a fantasy epic.

That's fine if you can't include everything. Just put in what you want.
Honestly, this is the first Mario Fan-Fic I actually think sounds interesting.

Well, guys. Here's some more stuff for you to read. I decided to take a break from the "Story Elements" for a short period and briefly share some of the "Character Summaries" with you, instead. I know everyone here is already extremely familiar with the cast of the Mario series. But, in my story, I decided to add a few flourishes of my own (where I thought they were necessary) and flesh out a few things here and there. I really wanted my story to delve into the characters' thoughts and emotions a lot more than usual. So, there may be some slight (or not-so-slight) differences in characterization. But, I believe that it's all for the best (at least, as far as this story is concerned).
Anyhoo, here is my interpretation of the Brothers Mario:
The Mario Brothers The protagonists of our story. They grew up on the streets of Brooklyn, New York, where they now own a humble plumbing business that they inherited from their adoptive father. One fateful night, while traversing the sewers of Brooklyn, they accidently stumble upon an enchanted gateway (in the form of a large, green pipe) that transports them to the magical world of Sarasa.
Mario - the courageous and altruistic elder brother. He's normally pretty upbeat and positive, always looking at the bright-side of things and not sweating the small stuff. He also has a tendency to look before he leaps, believing action to be the surest solution to any and all problems. When he and his brother, Luigi, end up in Sarasa and find themselves in the middle of a war, he believes that they should get involved and take up arms with the noble people of Birabuto - The Mushroom Kingdom.
He secretly harbors feelings for Princess Toadstool, the ruler of Birabuto, whom he develops a steadily deepening relationship with as the story progresses.
Luigi - the thoughtful and apprehensive younger brother. He's usually very cautious and somewhat indecisive, heavily thinking things through before he makes a move. Despite this, he is easily the smarter of the two siblings, handling most of the financial aspects of their plumbing business. He also tends to worry a lot, perhaps due to his brother's carefee approach to life. These traits, ironically enough, make Luigi the more mature and responsible brother, despite him being younger. When he and his brother, Mario, end up in Sarasa and find themselves in the middle of a war, he urges that they stay out of it and find a way home as quickly as possible, believing the war to be none of their business.
Though Luigi openly criticizes Mario for his haphazard tendencies ("Sometimes I wonder if you're really the older brother..."), he secretly wishes that he could be as strong and confident as him.
---------------------------------------- More to come later!
(What do you guys think? Did I do the Bros. justice? Does that sound close enough to how they usually behave in the games?)

I always pictured Luigi as being the cowardly yet slightly smarter brother out of the two. I just hope that Luigi will come off as brave in this fan-fic because old Weegee deserves some spotlight instead of being the comic relief. Seriously, every game that shows him having a personality has depicted him as a scared little guy who only gets courage if his brother convinces him or if his brother is in trouble.

kingkoopaOh, don't you worry about that. I'm definitely going to give Luigi his moment to shine. After all, he's my favorite character.

Hey, guys. Here are a couple of more Character Profiles to read. This time they're focused on the primary heroines of our tale.
Here is my interpretation of Peach and Daisy:
Princess Hildegard Toadstool - the kind-hearted and benevolent monarch of the Kingdom of Birabuto. Years ago, when she was still but a mere infant, her father - The Mushroom King, was slain in the Great War by the Koopas, leaving her with the daunting responsibilities of ruling an entire kingdom at a very young age. As such, she has been forced to live a very isolated and sheltered childhood. This has, in turn, caused her to develop a strong yearning to visit unfamiliar places and meet new people. She feels caged, and wants to break free and see the outside world. But, she knows that she has a responsibility to her people, and must sacrifice her happiness for the good of all. When the Mario Brothers, who claim to hail from a faraway land, arrive in Sarasa, she immediately takes an interest in them (particularly Mario).
As a member of the Toadstool Royal Family, Hildegard (or "Peach", as she is called by those closest to her) is able to wield various forms of holy White Magic.
Lady Daisy - the strong-willed and boisterous caretaker/bodyguard of Princess Toadstool. Her family has served as the guardians of the Toadstool Royal Family for ages. Being together ever since childhood, Daisy is Peach's one and only true friend, the one in whom she confides all of her deepest feelings and secrets.
Daisy harbors feelings for Luigi, one of the two mysterious brothers who claim to hail from a faraway land, but keeps them a secret, fearing that her tomboyish nature might repulse him. To mask her insecurities, she picks on him and ridicules him constantly, which causes them to regularly engage in arguments.

lol. Do you like it?
I thought that it would be only natural for Luigi's logical and intellectual nature and Daisy's tomboyish behavior to clash.

Hey, I need some input from you guys. I have a bit of a problem.
Now, Toad is going to be a primary character in this story of mine. One change that I made is that the mushroom race will be called "Shroomfolk" instead of "Toads". I did this because it's always bothered me that Toad shared his name with his entire race. It's not like there's some guy named "Human" walking around, right (at least, not to my knowledge)?
Here's my problem: Yoshis are definitely going to be in my story and keep their name. But, what do I call the primary Green Yoshi that will accompany our heroes? I don't wanna just call him "Yoshi" or "Green Yoshi", if I can avoid it.
Any suggestions?

How's "Moses" or "Zeus" work for you?
Edit: Holy crap, when did I become a ninja?

Well, I guees you could refer to him with names like "Green", or maybe even "Yoster". Yeah, I really like that last one.

@1-Up: Well, I was thinking of something like a leader's name, but I like Yosh'ter a whole lot better. Go with that.

You know how when people reply a split second after someone else, and by that time, the topic's already changed?
People refer to those moments as "Being Ninja'd," and refer to those people as "Ninjas."
I have been Ninja'd several times, but this is the very first time that I was the Ninja.
If you look at the time I posted and the time SMBBQ posted, it happened in the same exact minute.
Hence the edit.
