Go play Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story to get what I'm talking about.

Oh, of course! *slaps forehead* I forgot that Starlow was called a "Star Sprite" in M&L3!
Well, that really helps me out. I'm going to actually use that term in my story now. =D
The (newly dubbed) Star Sprites in my story are a combination of several things. They look like Power Stars, but are sentient beings that can move about on their own (like Lumas and Star Kids). They serve under The Star Spirits, as angels and archangels served under God in the Bible.

Wait did you say that one of the four heores would be the ancestor of the Mario Bros? Weren't the four heroes a goomba, toad, koopa troopa, and boo?

Yes, but again, I took a few liberties with the original source material.
In my story, they're two humans, a Toad, and a Kong.

Okay, you guys. Here’s some more. I’m sorry that it’s taking so long for me to post each one…
Story Element #1 - The Creation Myth (cont’d): - Though the Star Spirits fought valiantly against the Queen of Shadows, they eventually proved to be no match for her and were overpowered. Now, believing to be uncontested, the Queen descended upon Sarasa, manifesting herself in mortal flesh and bone. Sitting atop the Black Throne that she had forged into the mountains overlooking the Darklands, she proclaimed herself the “Empress of Sarasa”. With a single stroke of her hand, she fragmented the world into 4 separate domains, so that none may unite to rise against her. Into the world were sent her demonic spawn, the Shadow Legions, to spread turmoil and fear amongst its inhabitants, plunging Sarasa into an era of strife known as “The Dark Age”.
- The Queen of Shadows had achieved total victory… or so she had thought. With her focus resting solely upon tightening her malicious grip upon Sarasa, the Star Spirits, now left unchecked, bided their time and formulated a plan of their own. While they lacked the power to directly shape the destiny of Sarasa themselves, they could select heralds to do it for them. These heralds came to be known as the “Starborn”, four legendary heroes that answered the call of the Star Spirits and fought as their champions.
- Armed with Exor, an enchanted blade crafted from light and stars, the Starborn confronted the Queen of Shadows high atop the dark mountains, in front of her Black Throne. The battle they waged was a long and gruelling one… but, a fruitful one, as well. Taking advantage of a momentary opening, the Starborn casted a spell of White Magic most powerful, turning the Queen into stone and trapping her. The Queen of Shadows’ own arrogance had been her undoing. By manifesting herself in the material realm, she had made herself substantially more vulnerable and weak, constrained by the laws of reality that the Star Spirits upheld. Now, her mortal body, a monument to her insatiable avarice and envy, served as her prison.
Peace had, at long last, returned to the land.
-----------------------------
More to come later (hopefully today)! =D

It's a bit stream-lined, but all of the important stuff is there.

I just thought of this, but this story doesn't have any big plot twists in it, right? Or anything that you'd want to leave unsaid until the final version is up?
'Cause, I'm not sure it's really wise to give away the entire plot before you put everything together.
Maybe just talk about stuff that you're torn about putting in?

Well, at the moment, I can't really think of any plot twists that I might have thrown in. It's a pretty straight-forward story. Anything that I don't want anyone to know yet I won't post. The reason I'm sharing these Story Elements with you guys is to exhibit my fan-fic's overall tone. Thanks for the advice, though.

I loved the fact the sword is called Exor. Is there any relation to Exor of SMRPG, or is it just a clever reference?
By the way, the whole thing seriously sounds pretty epic.

I was thinking that maybe Exor may have been cast under some sort of spell by Smithy about 1000 years later and became his immortal slave. Right, 1-up? Or did I just unintentionally give you some insperation?

The Exor in this story is of no relation to the one in Super Mario RPG. It was just a reference, as smbmaster said. I was originally planning to use the Star Rod, from Paper Mario, as the weapon that they used. But, I ultimately changed it because it just seemed too darn similar to the Kirby series. Besides, I thought a magic sword would be a lot more awesome. Also, I appreciate the ideas, mariobro364. You really helped me out with that "Star Sprite" thing! Keep 'em coming.

Don't worry about it, take your time.
By the way, when you want to post the whole thing, there's a fanworks section at the bottom of the main forums.

I disagree with your version of the Marioverse history, but since you're the one who bothered to write it up, keep going!

Well, you're aware that this isn't a retelling of the Marioverse, right? It's an adaptation. It's supposed to be a bit different.

Yeah, see, this is a fan-fiction, just without all the fan characters and all that other gobbledeegook.

I'm actually really diggin' this. Though I'm kinda sad that the Yoshies don't have a culture.
A few burning questions I'd like to ask:
-Is Rosalina and the Lumas gonna factor in here somewhere? -What about the lands from Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2 and the various Wario games? -Is Wario and/or Waluigi even going to be in this? -What are you going to do about other villains such as Tatanga, Wart and Smithy?
