Just played around with the superscript and subscript tags a little bit. You know, the ones on the bottom row, right above the face?

Eh, I always figured the "Blocks are Mushroom People" thing doesn't apply anymore. Pretty much every game after SMB treats them like objects or a natural part of the geography. Besides, why would one want them to be imprisoned Mushroom People anyway? The hell does that do for us? That's true. I never really believed that about the Toads being blocks. I also never had the manuals for the original games. I bought a lot of my games from Cash Converters and other similar places where games come without the boxes and manuals as well as car boot sales.

Thanks.. I probably won't need any of them but I like to read some of them anyway and non-Mario game manuals too for interest as well learning more about some of my favourite games, character names/bios, story, etc. Plus I just like how the manuals are designed, they look quite colourful.

So, I finally dug out my copy of the text of the Japanese SMB manual. From the story section:
このキノコ達の魔法を解き、よみがえらす事ができるのはキノコ王国のお姫様ピーチ姫だけ。彼女は今、大魔王クッパの手中にあります。 マリオは、カメ一族を倒してピーチ姫を救出し、再び平和なキノコ王国を築くために立ち上がりました。
My translation: The only one who can undo the magic on the Mushrooms and revive them is Peach-hime of the Mushroom Kingdom. She is now in the hands of the Great Demon King Koopa. Mario has set out in order to defeat the Turtle Tribe, rescue Peach-hime, and rebuild the peaceful Mushroom Kingdom.
No mention of a King Toadstool, or any king of the Mushroom Kingdom at all!

Well, so, basically, a Mushroom King has never been intented to exist and thus may still not exist, right ? Well, that explains a century-long mystery (wait, when did Super Mario Bros. come out, already ?). Thanks !
