And by this, I mean in Luigi's Mansion. Most portrait ghosts seem like they were once human, and the whole house and such shares styles and cultural elements from various times in the real world, so where in the Mushroom World was E Gadd exploring to find all these ghosts?
Presumably, there must be at least one area which had a history roughly like that of human history on Earth, otherwise the design of the mansion and the ghosts within would make no sense.
Diamond City perhaps? Some other mainly human inhabited place?

I think that only places like the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland have only very few humans. You have a lot more humans in place like Diamond City and wherever Captain Syrup comes from. I guess not much humans live in the MK because of the fact the land is rugged as hell.

Well, though I question whether the Ghost in Luigi's Mansion were ever alive in the first place, the houses architecture is something I can't rebuff... I'd say it's just a style that was popular during an earlier time in Mushroom Kingdom history when the Human-Toad Ratio was more balanced, and the Boo's just took a liking to it(See:Ghost House).

Why wouldn't the ghosts have been alive?

They just never struck me as real people, and the fact that the Boo's were never alive. I just think that it's safe to assume that they are just bodiless entities.

You know, I could have sworn we discussed this already in some other topic...let me try to find that.

Their in-game profile tells us about what their life was before their death, in most cases. So, yeah, they are all dead people (except for Boolossus, Chauncey and maybe that potted ghost. Oh, and Bogmire, who's a poltergeist.).

I think the potted guy (Jarvis?) was once human by the way, it says similar in the bio.
And I don't think the Toy Soldiers were ever 'alive', they're kinda living toys.

I happen to think that the Toy Soldiers are actually ghosts that decided to take the toys for their new bodies.
Kinda like with Geno and Gaz's Doll.

But the toys themselves shouldn't have become ghosts then, just floating toys with eerie eyes. Not floating toys with eerie eyes that have a ghostly aura around them

The people of Twilight Town also claim to be human.
And there's Mario Golf to explain away.
And the Mushroom Kings.
There has to be a native human population somewhere, just not in the MK for whatever reason.

It could be in Diamond City or Jewelery Land. Or wherever the sports RPGs are set. Or wherever that valley from the ending of Yoshi's Island is supposed to be.

Nearly every character in the Mario Golf series is human, which annoys me a bit as all that space could have been used for other generic species or even the koopalings and other known characters.
I still believe the Mario Bros. come from Brooklyn despite what Yoshi's Island says. Their origins make no sense whatsoever in YI and I refuse to believe that a stork delivered them from absolutely nowhere. Wario and Waluigi probably also come from Brooklyn, not sure about the others.

I'd imagine that they where born in a Hospital, and the Stork was just delivering them to their Parents. I believe they NEVER lived in Brooklyn, as no in-game evedince suggest they even know of Earths existence, let alone lived there.

Well that does make more sense when you put it that way. But why would a stork have to deliver the babies? Shouldn't the mother be in a hospital bed with the baby?

Maybe on ME, the parents are allowed to leave the Hospital while Doctors perform various Health Exams on the Babies, which are then delivered to the parents by Stork. I know that it seems like to much of a hassle, but would you rather have Nintendo shown the Bros. birth?
