I don't like this pic. Sure, it's well done, but Bowser isn't a villain. He leaves a larger impression as a villain though. Notice that the games where Bowser is just an antihero are usually the games that people list as being Bowser's bad points. |

Yeah, he's so villainous that his idioty and overconfidence (see: lack of a plan B, no thought of what'd happen if Mario beats him) leads to the destruction of the whole universe. How mature and evil. Bowser is epic enough in the RPGs, too. And people who think "Bowser as antihero = bad point" are bizarre. |

Bowser is utterly hilarious since Super Mario RPG. You see, this may seem quite bizarre, but he's extremely similar to the Touhou Project character Cirno. He's extremely stupid and immature, he's way too overconfident although he keeps getting beaten up, and he does his best to look menacing. He lacks the concept of strategy, too, and he's stubborn as heck. Yet he's epic and awesome, and that's why everyone loves him. Well, the major difference between him and Cirno is that he actually looks menacing (if you ignore his ":3" face) and can be a threat considering he has an army. But, aside from firepower, his army is weak, and he's always being stopped by Mario. Heck, look at M&L3 (or at least the French text on the appropriate topic, I don't remember about the English one), it seems like Bowser is seen as a friend of the kingdom who creates troubles once in a while although it always gets fixed. Bowser likes his kingdom too, and does care about the worlds unlike what he says (see SPM, where the book of prophety tells the heroes want to protect the world and care about it, until Bowser states he does everything for himself). Miyamoto also stated that "the Mario series has no heroes or villains, unlike the Zelda series". Is Mario a hero ? Nope, he's a nice guy who wants to protect what he likes. Is Bowser a villain ? Nope, he's a moron who wants to keep for himself what he likes. Heck, the whole Mario vs. Bowser battle is only about two immature guys fighting over a girl, except one of those guys has more brutal methods. Really, if you want a true villain, look at Ganondorf. Or Dimentio. People who see Bowser as being evil, even if it's only a little bit, completely miss the point. And, yes, Bowser does want to take over the world, but it's because the Star Rod made him (more) corrupted (than before). It's a lust for power, not for death or destruction or whatever. On-topic:  |
