Off-topic for now, but after giving it some good thinking, I've been convinced that Boos and Duplighosts are a species, not just undead. Maybe spirit life-forms?

Yeah, we discussed that theory in the "Boos" thread, too. I'm a strong supporter of it. But what about Dry Bones, at first I thought they were undead Koopa Troopas, but in BiS, they are treated as an entirely different species... I'm so confused...

Er, how exactly were they treated as a different species? Moreover, it's only one game. Otherwise, Dry Bones have always been referred to as undead Koopa Troopas. What's there to be confused about?

As to why they are undead but still think and act normally, my guess will be that it's because of Bowser's magic.
And, I already said that Boos weren't ghosts. They don't really have a body, but they never had one either and they can materialize anyway. As for Duplighosts, I'd say the same thing. Doopliss even got angry when he was called a ghost.

And, I already said that Boos weren't ghosts. They don't really have a body, but they never had one either and they can materialize anyway. Boos being ghosts is the most crucial part of their existence and is confirmed in nearly every appearance they've ever been in. We have to work around the fact that they're ghosts to make other stuff make sense, not vice-versa.

Chauncey is also called a ghost, even if he's born as a ghost. In the Mario series, "ghosts" is pretty much used for any species that looks like one.
Boos can't be ghost. They never had a body and thus never died, to start with. "Phantom" would work better for them than "ghost".

Basically they're ghosts, but not the ghosts of any dead beings.

Then the word is "spirit". Or "phantom". "Ghost" refers to the soul of a dead person.

Now you're being really pedantic about it.

What does that mean ? (yeah, I'm too lazy to get a dictionnary)
