I assumed that they were Pocket Dimensions. They existed entirely blankly until the Star Power reacted with these "worlds", causing them to be opened up and infiltrated by Bowser and his troops.
Eventually down the line, Bowser lookedback on his designs for Whomp's Fortress and decided to recreate the base for the Throwback Galaxy.
Basically, the worlds were like a blank canvas, and Bowser was the Vincent Van Gore of SM64

I would guess that the paintings are warps that Princess Peach uses to visit foreign dignitaries.

Originally, the game says that those are "painting worlds" CREATED by Bowser's black magic and by the power of the Power Stars.
It is a possibility that, when Bowser made those "worlds", he accidentaly actuallty made them on the planet while the paintings became portals to those worlds.

Yeah, but the people who live there behave as though they've been there a long Time! Same thing could be said about the Galaxies, even if it's one that a Luma just "Created", the people still behave as though they grew up there! So I question if the Lumas really do Transform into Galaxies, or if it's just a Game Mechanic.

I think the "Luma becomes a planet / a galaxy" thing must not be taken seriously. Don't forget that, before a Luma transforms into a planet with a Power Star and / or a boss, there's nothing there. Would that mean that, in Battle Belt Galaxy, the Luma transformed into the planet AND Fire Gobblegut AND the Power Star ? Would that mean that the planet is alive, anyway ? Nah, I don't think so.

Yeah, I agree! But a lot of people on tMK shot down my "Galaxies are from ME" theory with that very same thing!

I don't think that the Lumas turn into the planets. What they probably do is clone or teleport a planet from some other part of space.

I don't really take the concept very seriously, because look at Polari, he's the oldest(Out of Rosalina's) Luma and he never transformed.

Polari is strange because while they make it seem like he was the first Luma to meet Rosalina, the orignal Luma that met Roslaina was Mario's Luma wasn't it.

I thought that at first, but in SMG2 tho others call him "Young Master Luma", when Rosalina's first would have been much, much Older!

Still though, they never seemed to call him Polari in Rosalina's story. And didn't the original Luma become the comet observatory?

Well, they never called the little Girl, Rosalina either! But, I'm not sure about him becoming the Comet Observatory, I'd need to re watch her Storybook!

Yeah, I remember the Luma with Rosalina turning into something that had to do with comets. He either made Rosalina's home in space the Comet Observatory or he turned into a rideable comet

About the luma thing. I always thought the transforming thing was voluntary. Like how the hungry lumas will only transform if you give them something to eat.

I suppose that's a possibility, PDoogan, but I'm still leaning towards it being an In-Game thing!

The original (Japanese) version doesn't say a word about Polari being Rosalina's "first Luma" or anything. NoA wanted to make the book story less dramatic (because they hate you) so they did as if Polari was Rosalina's first friend evah.

Yeah, Koopalmier is probably Right! Oh well, back on Topic: The Nimbus Kingdom and Sky Land! Two Distinct Nations, or One-in-the Same? I say they are the same Nation, and I'll present a Theory when other peoples present theirs!

I think that we already had a discussion about Sky Land and Nimbus Kingdom being the same in another topic. I forget which one it was but it should be on this page.

Sky Land (a.k.a. The Sky) is part earth-based, part sky-based. The ruler is simply a human king. The population is unknow, maybe Toads. If the SMB3 map is to the south-east of the continent, then Sky Land is located very far of the MK, at the south-east.
Nimbus Land (a.k.a. Nimbus Kingdom) is completely sky-based. The rulers are a king and a queen, who are cloud-ish creatures. The population is not unknow, but no Toads to be found. The land is located near the MK, at the west.
Both are surely cloud lands, but that's the only similarity.

Plus Nimbus Land is made of actual clouds while the sky part of sky land is made up of just vapor emmiting blocks.
