Okay, some of these places just seem to small to be entire galaxies. So, what's your take on this?

I don't thin kwhat they call galaxies are actually galaxies. I think that all of the "galaxies" in an entire area ((for example the Terrace)) are the actual galaxies. Plus there are many galaxies in the real world that have no planets in them at all, just stars and a black hole.

Are you sure about that? There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that there are galaxies that don't have planets in them in real life. They just haven't been discovered yet. I bet there are tons of planets in the Andromeda Galaxy and others too.
As for SMG, I have never played it but it is probably set in one single galaxy rather than several galaxies or maybe they are set in just small sections of different galaxies.

Every world is called [Insert Theme Here] Galaxy. But yes, they are far, far, too small. Put all of the galaxies in one section together and you'd have a pretty small solar system. That's about it. But "Super Mario Solar System" is less catchy.

As I was saying, each "world" is probably set in a small section of each galaxy. And anyway is it ever shown how the characters got into space in the first place? Did E. Gadd manage to invent faster-than-light travel?

Nope, Mario is simply blasted from the hub world to the level.

Really powerful Launch Stars if anyone wanted specifics

You wouldn't need to go faster than light to go into space. Although that does bring up the point of how he's able to avoid getting sucked into black holes.

There doesn't seem to be any black holes around the paths to the galaxies. Even if there were though the launch stars follow a very specific track and not even the gravitational pull of planets can stop them. I think there are several times where they pass pretty close to Black Holes too.

Kinda off-topic, but watching the commercials for SMG2, I had a new theory. The ads seem to imply that there are in fact seemingly innumerable small planetoids around Mushroom Earth. Perhaps a belt of rings?

I think that is all of the planets from the first galaxy. Remember at the end how they were all lined up right next to the ME

True, but it also seems to me that World 1 seems to all take place in or around ME's atmosphere, what with birds flying about in the clouds.

Yes, I think ME might even be PART of World 1. Given that you can reach Star Station Galaxy through a regular Launch Star suggests that they are very close to each other

So, if World 1 is ME's atmosphere, that means Starship Mario actually progresses through space somewhat like this;
World 1: Mushroom Earth's atmosphere World 2: ME's solar system World 3: A nebula near Mario's planet World 4: Outer rim of Mario's galaxy World 5: A galaxy cluster World 6: Center of Bowser's Empire World S: Sky of an unknown planet

No I meant that ME is a planet in World 1, not that World 1 is the ME. Also, is it just me or does World 2 look like our solar system?

Gah... I just came back from playing this game... I should remember this...
Then again... I was focusing on not killing myself on the Silver Stars in Double Time Star...

kingkoopaI see what you mean now, but I think my chart is still the most logical.

It could be, but I seriously doubt that World 1 is inside of ME.

Why not? The map screen for World 1 is a cloudy skyline. Last I checked, there are noclouds in space.

Well for one thing I doubt that there could be small planets with little to no gravity INSIDE of the Mushroom Earth. They would have to be outside of the ME to even exist unless the ME is really the Mushroom Galaxy which makes no sense whatsoever.
