The Great Type Classification Project

I've been thinking about this subject for quite a while. Every video game, with few exceptions, has "types" for species. That is to say, associated elements. The Pokemon series would be the best example.

Now, it's obvious that the Marioverse has a variety of types present in its charactes and enemies, regardless of whether they affect gameplay (which they don't always). So, I'm starting the Great Type Classification Project: a topic which will discuss and determine the types of most important species in the Marioverse. Since the Pokemon series has the most robust type system, the Marioverse type system I created is based on it. (No "type advantages", though. Such things aren't common in the Marioverse.) Also, each character or species can have three types (helps to resolve conflicts).

Oh, and I guess we need a guide in case the symbols aren't intuitive enough (which is true for some of them):

	Air (anything that lives in the sky)
	Dark (bad-guy tendancies, but not 100% evil)
	Earth (things that live underground, made of dirt, etc.)
	Electric (anything electrifying)
	Fire (anything that can use fire)
	Ghost (generally, anything "undead")
	Ice (anything that can use ice)
	Light (beings that create light or are 100% good)
	Magic (let's face it, for some there's no alternative)
	Metal (anything mechanical)
	Muscle (those with unnatural strength)
	Normal (can mean either non-elemental or not "pure" (body not made of fire, etc.))
	Plant (obvious)
	Poison (anything that can cause poisoning)
	Shadow (100% evil, not many in the Marioverse compared to other universes)
	Stone (usually made of rock)
	Water (fish, etc.)

Feel free to suggest changes, additions, or questions about types. And anything in the "Notes" column is extremely open to debate.

Peach should be part light, as her status/healing moves in SMRPG have no other basis, and she possess abnormally "good" traits in several games, like M&L: SS and PM: TTYD. As for additions, I'll start with main enemies:

I don't think it's likely that anyone could be both Shadow and Light. From what I've read, Terrormisu seems more like a Normal/Shadow/Magic type.

I wouldn't think King Boo (or any Boo except Balloon Boos) would be part Air. Sure, they fly, but that's because of their ghostlyness.

And Cackletta seems more like a Plant/Poison/Shadow than being part Electric. I haven't played the game, but she's definately part plant, right?

I guess Cackletta could be plant as she's Beanish, but she hasn't shown any plant characteristics other than that. She uses lightning as her main form of attack during the first fight with you.
I put Terrormisu as light as she attacks you with love and niceness, but is an evil demon. Nintendo and/or Suzak decided it would be funny to have an oxymoron as a final boss.
I put King Boo as Air just because he seems like he needed a third element, but I'm perfectly okay with it not being there.

Love and niceness aren't necessarily Light attributes, in my opinion. You have a point though.

And let's put Cackletta as Plant/Electric/Shadow.

No, she can turn into bats which poison you on contact. I also think (but am not sure) that she can do some sort of gas attack that poisons you in her final form.
As for Terrormisu, I guess magic will be okay.
Also, in the Thwomps discussion, we talked about them being ghosts. Should we put that here?

A good start. However, I think Dimentio is the only real Shadow-type, since the others reform after the story's over. And Air? Well...sure, they can float, but I'm not sure that can be considered criteria for matching up with Lakitus and Gusties.

EDIT: Somehow, I don't even think O'Chunks is even Dark. Not only does he have no darkness powers, but he isn't a bad guy. He just fights for a bad guy.

EDIT2: When you look at Mimi's spider form in 3D, you see mechanical parts. Metal-type?

my mistake. bowser is a lot of types like poison (paper mario), electricity (super mario galaxy), ice (luigi´s mansion), and earth(he´s very strong in every game).

Bowser may be able to do all those attacks, but that doesn't mean he's those types. For example, Mario can become Ice Mario by grabbing an Ice Flower. Does that make him an Ice-type? I wouldn't think so.

Mostly agreeable. Whomps, however, are more Rock than Earth. And I've never seen a case where Snifits are poisonous (SMRPG maybe?, I haven't played that).

Oops, my bad. Whomps should be rock. Snifits use poison in Mario Party 3 and in Super Mario RPG. The move is called "Gunk Ball" in the latter. Also, their very close relatives, Snufits, live in toxic gas in SM64. And there's the fact that they where gas masks...so I think there's sufficient evidence.

After playing Super Paper Mario, I thought some things:
Shouldn't O'Chunks be Poison too? He gets places with a fart rocket.
Since Count Bleck's reformed, he shouldn't even be Dark. He was mostly just sad anyway. However, he's a descendant of the Tribe of Darkness...take that as you will.
Mimi's tough; according to Carson, she could be a witch, and Tiptron says she wants to take over Merlee's mansion. However, she supposedly is reformed and also has Metal parts.
Nastasia shouldn't be Dark at all as she was just following Bleck's orders and is now reformed.
