We talked about how they explode and can still be unharmed in other threads, but lets dive into it. Also discuss their "personalitys".
In the Paper Mario's they might have a contraption that emits a concentrated blast of sound or air. Like a pow block. The older models could actually have something like low power TNT.
The newer ones needed high AI to help do some sort of activity for their creators. Mabey even some kind of brain knowledge transplant could have happened.

So they're not organic, right? And I guess we've established that they don't really explode, or else they wouldn't be able to continue functioning after the first explosion.

I think there may be more then one kind. There's the little ones that can fit in your hand, (I don't think those are alive at all, their just bombs.) that don't regenerate, And the big kind that talk and have personallities. Not sure how those work, mabey magic or somthing...

And then there are the Bob-Ulks, which are semi-smart yet "good for only one use".

The ones that explode and don't come back are just smart bombs.

the only bomb-ombs that explode and come back that I've seen are all the good ones. The paper mario ones show that there are sentient bomb-ombs and the fact that bobbery had a wife and bombette's stalker named bruce shows that bomb-ombs are capable of love. Also Bobbery's wife died from a sickness, last time I checked machines don't get sick and die.

We could check to see if PM2 says if his wife was a Bob-omb.
But I get what your saying.

I'm pretty sure she is a bob-omb. If you look at the credits in PM2, when all the characters siloetes are passing by, you'll see and unknown bob-omb that's not featured in the game walking behind Bobbery. I'm pretty sure that's ment to be her.

She could've caught a computer virus. If they are machines, they probably have some ridiculously complex programming.

Not sure if the mushroom world has that sort of technology yet, I'd lean more towrds the use of magic myself. Maybe all bob-ombs start out as the lifeless explosive type, but through the use of magic they are made into the kind that have feelings and personalities and can regenerate after they blow up. That still wouldn't explain the RPGs, so I guess we could say the enemy bob-ombs just flee once the use their exploding attack.

The enemys could just by regular bob-ombs with little or no intelligence.
And Mario was walking around with a portable email account in PM2.
i.e. the Mailbox SP

There's a bit of a difference between inventing Email and inventing a robot that can think for itself and a feelings.

So have we decided that the bob-ombs are magic-based? Can they breed?

I highly doubt that.

So I guess each bob-omb is a new creation. But remember that wealthy bob-omb family in PMTTYD. Were they just created as a family?

Maybe, to have a child, it is "requested for".

Maybe they're all smart, but he dumb ones that act like robots were brainwashed by the Koopa Kingdom to serve as suicide bombers. They die after their explosions because they don't hold anything back. The nice ones, like Bombette, don't completely expend themselves and therefore are able to remain intact.

But wouldn't Bombette take damage?
