Maybe Boos come from dead things that don't have a certain amount of intelligence? Run-of-the-mill Goombas, for example, or maybe pigs and other wildlife. sorry to bring this up but boos are pretty intelligent,so I'd say they are their own species because all the inteligent creatures already have a ghost form

I would think it would be the opposite of what Toomai said. Boos seem rather smart, so they must be the souls of the more inteligent creatures. I would think a dumber animal, such as things that can't talk or live in houses would turn into a much simpler ghosts, such as a gusty. (from SMW2)

Maybe Boos were originally elusive, ball-shaped creatures that we've never seen. When they die, however, they gain an indefinite lifespan, which makes them more confident and causes them to show themselves.

How many Big Boo's are there?
There's the one in SMW donut plains ghost house, and at least three in SM64 (ghost hunt level, the merry go round, the rooftop ), and mabey a few others.

Big Boos are probably less common, larger versions of smaller boos. They hold more power and probably control a small group of normal boos.

I think big boos may be a bunch of smaller boos put together. You know, like boolossus in LM and the seacret battle in PM2.

I was thinking the same thing. But the thing is, Big Boos go transparent all at once. If they were made up of many Boos, wouldn't they all disappearat a slightly different time?
Maybe once they combine, their nervous systems (or lack thereof) link together as one.

Yeah. But I don't remember it happening naturally: every "disassemblage" I can think of happened because the hero of whatever game gave 'em a good smack (or a pop).

So it probably isn't a permanent bond then. Maybe they just all crowd into a ghostly shell and retain their forms while inside the shell.

Those Freedy or Jason whatever looking things with the hockey masks and the knife in the head. I "trade borrowed" that game from this kid for my PKMN Yellow version the 1st day I met him and he never traded back. Then he stole my Mario Kart DD. Then latter I found out that he had somehow stolen my MLSS on the 1st day I met him. Then he stole my friend's Nightmare in Dreamland. The he broke into this other kid's house and like stole a whole buch of stuff then he beat up the kid who's house he broke into and this detectve guy or somebody came over. He just steals all this stuff and sells them to game stop and dosn't ever pay anyone back. Except my friend he stole from somehow managed to get his game back before it got sold. Then latter this other kid went into his house and stole his older brother's gamecube and games....:/...Can't say I fell sorry for him though, he's not that nice either, but it was funny the time the younger brother stole his brothers necklas from his room. Then the older one finds him playing basketball, and just just punches the $#*^ out of him , and he falls to the ground and starts crying. It actualy dosn' t take much to make him cry, but as hard as he got hit by his brother I bet anyone would have been crying. Then latter I somehow got blamed for that by their mom even though I never even touched him..... ...I guess the point is, do't trust anyone who wants to "trade" or "borrow" games the 1st day you meet them. And also, those goombas don't really look like ghosts to me. More like zombies.....or something......

..................
Fascinating.
I guess the ghosts that look like Goombas and Shy guys where, obviously, the creatures they resemble.
A collection of low intelligence creatures could bond together to make a regular sized boo. Like mice or small birds.

Ehh,I'm starting to think boos are made of ectoplasm. After all we have:toad, koopa, goomba, shy-guy,and human ghosts, there is nothing left for boos to be.(fun fact: boos were called boo didilys in SMB3)

Boo seem to smart to be made of animals of such low intelligents. I always assosiated animals of very low intelligents as becoming gustys (YI) since there's so many of them and all they do is float around. I'm stating to think boos arent the spirits of dead beings, but rather there own species. Kind of like how there are ghost pokemon but there not really dead.
