But Bandits aren't just Shy Guys with a mean streak. They have different body proportions and shirt styles.

I know, but they wear masks and can change expressions.

The masks probobly have some magical properties that allow them to change shape so that they corraspond with the face under the mask.

Maybe the masks are made of a flexable material that has been streatched acrose the shyguy or bandit's face.

Hey! So what do you think of this shyguy/shyguy like things disscusion here? What do you think about the shyguys and things like bandits and baseball bros? Could they be related? Could they all be some type of human or something? Could II Paintisimo actualy be a shyguy himself? Oh and welcome to the Mariology forums!

One question that has always been on my mind is, where did the shyguys come from? Paper Mario suggests that they originated from a toybox and that they are all simply toys come to life. I have a different theory, however. Ever since I played Yoshi's Island for the first time I have always been curious about Spearguys (and later, Island Guys). Then it occured to me that the Spearguys and Island Guys may actually be the original Shyguys. That would explain why they never take off their masks (because it is part of their tribal heritage) and why they mostly seem to be encountered on Yoshi's Island. I believe that shyguys were once native to Yoshi's Island and lived in tribes, much like the yoshis themselves. However, when Kamek and his forces came to the island they enslaved/enlisted the shyguys as servants and footsoldiers. I like your theory but I have another one about the shy guys' original origins in SMB2. I believe that shy guys wear masks to conceal what is hidden within. I believe that shy guys are nightmares recruited by Bowser after Wart was thwarted and Wart made them wear masks so that he wouldn't see his own nightmares (vegetables) ;D and that is my theory I'll get those plumbers!

Possibly...but remember there's no proof that SMB2 even happened.

Okay, here's the proof it didn't happen: the ending of Super Mario Bros. 2 heavily implies that it was a dream and nothing else. Sure you can say it was a dream realm that can only be entered by going to sleep, but that kind of ruins the whole point of having that major plot twist at the end. Now show me the proof it did happen.

Like I said, you CAN say that, but it's meant to be a shock that it was actually a dream. Coming up with an explanation to explain that eliminates this shock.

That was a pretty big shock, but the dream world has to be real if Birdos, Pokeys, Shyguys and etc. exist

Not necessarily. Mario could be dreaming about creatures he's seen before in real life.

But SMB2 came before he saw those creatures to prove subcon is real read Birdo's trophy in SSBB

Sorry for the bad picture, but this doesn't prove anything. And a game can come chronologically before SMB2 just because it was released first. Notice how Yoshi's Island is chock full of SMB2 enemies.

"A pink creature of indeterminate gender that some say would rather be called Birdetta. A big ribbon on its head is its most distinguishing feature. In Super Mario Bros. 2, you can return fire on Birdo by jumping on the eggs shot from its mouth. Be careful not to get psyched out by fake-egg fireballs!" That doesn't prove anything either.
