I think Black Yoshi's on to something. Also, I gotta hand it to him for that drawing. Very cool. And some of those Domes that you posted, YM, do look tree-like. The ones that don't could be explained away as a different graphical style or extremely thick and uniform foliage.
The ones in about the middle of your pic, YM, exhibit a strange phenomenon. They're growing one on top of another, by the looks of things. Black Yoshi's theory above would explain how this could happen.

They're growing one on top of another, by the looks of things. Or the ones near the back could just be a lot taller.

Yea it makes sense. But I don't think they grow in SMW, I always thought that was some dark magic on the area from Bowser, and since all the bad guys in the area where defeated, the landscape returned to normal.

It could've just been a side effect of the dark magic. That stuff inadvertently screws with everything.

Well I would be mad if somebody screwed around with my home turf.
Those slanted dirt pillars could be Bowser's doing too.

Those looked more like the results of earthquakes to me, but I guess it's kind of farfetched to believe an earthquake struck nearly every part of Dinosaur Island.

Why are they called domes anyway? I've never heard them being called that in the games.

True there's no offial name, but what else are we going to call them? You don't see people going around trying to think up a new term to describe ketchup, do you?

Why are they called domes anyway? Most probably because of the name of Vanilla Dome.

Then how do those people explane the leaves and the "growing".....? And also how it says, in Mario Golf TT, that it's a tree if you hit a ball on top of one.

True there's no offial name, but what else are we going to call them? You don't see people going around trying to think up a new term to describe ketchup, do you? One small speciece of it is called like candypoll or something like that. And in TT, like I said before, they are just called trees.

Oh yea right, okay, there trees.
Don't know why I didn't think of this before, the outside covering could be some kind of bark.

Good theory, but it dousn't explain why they have eyes, any thoughts on that.
P.S. I was thinking moss, but bark works too.

Why do you think it's bark? It's green and it makes a russling sound like leaves if you hit a ball into it. But I guess being made of bark would explain a little better the candypolls. Candy polls actually sound hollow inside. They are so strange, so differnt from any of the other "dome trees". I wonder if they are even related to the other onse. For all we know the could just be hidden switches painted up to look like the trees. Hmm that makes sinse. To hide the entrance to the village and hide a few items.
