Ok, you may feel differently but I felt this topic would probably fit in the Biology category.
Anyway, the subject at hand is the items of the Marioverse (i.e. Fireflower, Super Mushroom). Do these items affect everybody that they come in contact with? Or is that an ability reserved for the Mario Bros? It's always seemed to me like one of the things that made Mario and Luigi so special is that they had the ability to absorb the essence of certain items and make them a part of themselves. For example, if a normal person picked up a Fireflower they would not turn into "fiery normal person" or what have you, lol. However, if Mario or Luigi were to pick up the same Fireflower then they would be transformed into Fiery Mario or Fiery Luigi.
Thoughts, comments?

The effects from thiose items are by chemical reactions.
The fire flowers chemicals react with the chemicals on your hands. When the chemicals combine with eachother and air they make fire. Thats my thought.
And the badges in Paper Mario can't exist.
Mario has always been able to do spin moves and junk like that. Unfortunatly RPG's fighting style ( your turn then the enemys ) is very unrealistic.

That's a good idea, but I think it needs a bit of tweaking. If that were the case then as soon as you touched the flower it would burst into flames. Perhaps they work a bit like they do in SSMB? For example, theres a flower called a Snap-Dragon that, when you push the flower's head (I forgot the scientific name) forward, the pedals of the flower will close shut. Maybe if you push a certain area on a Fireflower it secrets/squirts chemicals that combine and form flames. Once again, though, this wouldn't explain the Mario Bros actually seeming to absorb the flowers themselves. Alas, they do. I concur, but who mentioned anything about the RPGs?

I just felt like saying stuff about Paper Mario.
Star points and HP, FP, and BP can't exist. Can that at least be possible?
I don't like the absorbing thing. Needs somthing...

Then by all means, add it. ^_^
And yes, RPG systems aren't known for their realism. Yet, at the same time they kind of are. It's a weird situation.
The whole points thing (Bros Points, Flower Points, ect.) seems to me like an analogy for an essence pool of sorts. I have a very strong belief that the Mario Bros have inherint magical abilities. I came to this conclusion when the Bros both began to generate fireballs on their own without the help of Fireflowers. The points system merely represents the energy that can be expended on "spells", if you will. The badges act as enchanted items that allow the Brothers to have greater amounts of spendable energy.

Wow, that's a tough subject. I'd never really thought about it before. I think the Mario Bros. have the option of absorbing or merely using Fire Flowers as weapons. But what allows them to absorb them? Maybe, like you said, the Mario Bros. have magic--enough in this case to merge their bodies with items.

That's my take on the whole situation. Although, I think that after using the flowers so many times they eventually learned how to generate fireballs on their own. Hence, all the super moves in the RPGs.

It seems biogically impossible to condure fire.
For humans at least.

Then we'll have to think of another way that it happens. It's been pretty much said flat out that magic does exist in the Marioverse, so that's what I think it is.

Hmm wait...
I said that the magic in the power stars mutated Bowser's father... so the fire flower might have mutated Mario, just mabey. Or the magic on Mario's hands is permanant.

Ok, now lets try to figure out how the metal cap works.
We know it makes Mario metal, and that he can breath underwater, or doesn't have to breath. And that his weight has increased significantly.
How can this work?

I think there's definitely magic involved. Otherwise he wouldn't be able to breathe underwater. Or maybe his innards are also made metallic and all of his bodily functions are frozen until the effect wears off.

It is proposterous at how the metal robot in Terminator 2 operates. If it’s made completely of metal there’s nothing to tell it what to do, nothing to move it, it’s a metal blob incapable of movement. That’s why I thought up a tiny nano chip that allows a metal blob to become anything with calculations on light and color. This chip would be found inside the alien army and super vessel commanded by Tatanga when he returns to kill Mario, but that’s another story. But a chip couldn't be in the metal cap so I'm stumped there.

The T-1000 was made of a colony of nano-machines, each one with it's own processor and semi-AI.
Perhaps the Metal Cap secreted a form of coating that acted the same way. If the coating covered Mario's body inside and out then the outer layer would act as a weight in the water, while on the inside the nano-drones would act almost like blood cells when under water, transporting oxygen from the water into Mario's alvioli.
Whattya think?

I really laughed when I read that. Not because it's most likly not probable for somthing so complicated to happen over a few minutes, but because you knew stuff about the movie so much.
The T-1000 is a cybernitic organism... Ha ha lol you guys crack me up, I love yall happy Spring break.

T-1000 isn't a cyborg, though (I don't believe). It's only a machine.
But that's not the point, let's get back on topic. ^_^

Right so Metal cap, I'm gonna say metal shell so Mario can still have basic motor functions. Breathing? Can't find a sure way to make it possible.
Unless he just holds his breath when he goes underwater.
