When we say Toad we think of that mushroom guy that works for Peach. I think there is only one Toad, in a race of mushroom people. Instead of Toads shouldn't we call them the mushroom people? I know grammer sucks but any ideas? Same for Yoshi and proper grammer on refering to Yoshi's island.

I agree, that's always been very tedious when referring to either Toads or Yoshis. I went through a fase when I called them "Kinopians" (Kinopio is Toad's name in Japan). But eventually I realized that wasn't gonna fly because alot of people wouldn't know what I was talking about, lol.

Hmm. Maybe Toad was just a Toad who got named the name of his race--kind of like one of us being named "Human."

Hmm. Maybe Toad was just a Toad who got named the name of his race--kind of like one of us being named "Human." The same could go with the first Yoshi Mario ran into. By now they really are the name of the species, not just the individuals. When I was yonger and Yoshi's Island came out for the SNES, I was confused that there was one Yoshi and suddenly there were several. I thought Yoshi was the orginal green one and all the other Yoshi's were 'raptors". I even called them raptors until I learned they were all called Yoshis!

I think the "original" Yoshi from SMW is named Yoshi by Mario.

No, in his very first bit of dialogue he introduces himself as Yoshi.

It seems to me like if anything the Islands were named after them and not vice versa. After all it is Yoshi's Island.

In the Paper Mario games, all Toads have a last initial of T. It looks like every one of them has a last name of Toad.

Not necessarily. The singer at Club 64 didn't have a T at the end of her name. And even so, the Ts don't necessarily mean that their last names are Toad. For all we know, they could stand for Tocklewood. ^_^

I was going for the most plausible solution (to me). As for Chanterelle, her last name wasn't even mentioned.

Toad sounds possible to me. But we really don't have any way of finding out for sure.

Chanterelle! That was her name! But true, they never did mention her last name.

When Yoshi first introduced himself to Mario in the beginning of SMW, it would be like me meeting an alien and saying my name is human.

But perhapts that's their language. If you ever seen the South Park episode "Starvin' Marvin in Space", then the Marklar seem alot like the Yoshi to me. Their names are all Marklar and they use the word Marklar to describe all people, places, and things. I'm betting the same goes for the Yoshis.
