Thing is, Yoshi's wouldn't be able to communicate if they used "Yoshi" for every noun. Yeah, they could say it a little differently for somethings, but no one can say "Yoshi" over a thousand different ways.
Plus, wasn't there a Yoshi named Boshi somewhere on the SNES? (The purple guy with the spiked collar.)

Didn't we talk about this in the Yoshi section?
Yoshi's have there own language, with several nouns replaced with "Yoshi" like in the smurfs.
Yes he's in SMRPG.

Yoshis' tongues are so weird; who knows how many ways they could pronounce something? They probably use English words for some things, though.

Maybe since maybe the Toad is the most common Toad, they call him Toad. Same goes for the Yoshi.

Maybe their parents were running out of time before they had to sign the birth certificate. =P

This doesn't really appy to toads, but do yoshi's even give have names to begin with? Besides the yoshi kid in PM2 which you are in charge of naming, I can't think of any instance where a yoshi has been called anything besides *insert color here* yoshi.

Is Boshi a Yoshi?

"Boshi" is pretty much the only non-"Yoshi" Yoshi name that I've ever heard from a game. Maybe Yoshis don't usually give themselves names because there's not usually very many in one settlement and they distinguish themselves by colour.

Hmm..... Probably.
I think Toad is named Toad just because that's his name. The official species name is Toadstool, right?

No, it's Toad. You often hear things like "a group of Toads."

It could be a nickname, and Toad's real name is something else.

Could be. Or possibly it's just inherent that the Toads know their place. Like they don't mind being called "Toad." Think of it as me saying "Hey, you!" You is not your name, but it is implied I'm speaking to you.
