Yeah, I think the "guy" thing works pretty well. It's probably the same for other species too. Think about the sports spin-offs (birdo, hammer bro, magikoopa, ect.)

The koopa solders probably do have names, but don't really bother to use them. Sort of like how you refer to a persons position in the army without saying their name. (i.e: captain, private, general)

It seems to me like if anything the Islands were named after them and not vice versa. After all it is Yoshi's Island. Maybe it was a typo and it is actually Yoshis' Island |
