I think we concluded that Yoshis can speak English like any other creature. They also have their own language that only they (and a few others) understand.

Maybe those Yoshis just didn't speak English. And YoshiMastar, what were you talking about?

I was talking to the wizard. Claws, should we include the old comics as cannon?
In SMW when you first TALK to Yoshi he talks to you in english. Same for M64.

I think mario eventualy understands the language like the guy who sells them the book.

Yeah, maybe the comic happened before SMW. This would give Mario time to learn the old language. But if we accept the comics we also must accept the one with Wario that's particularly hairy...

IMO Pokemon are dumb and should not be related to the Mario-verse, in any way, shape, or form. grrr Pikachu...

Yeah, wizard, I just said Yoshis could speak English if they learned it. Otherwise they speak their own language, which is the popular "yoshi" thing that the Yoshis sometimes do.

Yoshi's could replace a word with "Yoshi" somtimes, like the smurfs.

Their language also includes those weird noises they make in the older Mario games like SMW.

Ok, so let's make a checklist of all the abilities that Yoshi has and go over them one by one until we have plausible solutions for all. Does that sound ok?

Sure, and when Mario gets on Yoshi I think it's just a exhaustion sound, like when your lifting a heavy crate on your back. If you know what I mean.
Most and/or all Yoshi's can: -Eat enemys about half it's size -Lift its own wieght by its toungue (Yoshi's Story) -Spit out fire and juice -Grow temporary wings -Create eggs at a high rate with almost no discomfort -Shift bones into a position to slam into the ground without damaging organs -Hover for a few seconds -Identify other creatures and Yoshi's by smell -Transform into a helicopter, submarine, car, train, and mole -Eat about half it's volume in food -Communicate with own language and/or body movements -Speak english -Make a good baseball pitcher

Ok then, we'll start with how the Yoshi can eat something of that size. Right away, the obvious conclusion that I jump to is that it can unhinge its jaw like a snake. That would allow it to eat things more than half its own size. Maybe even something twice its own size (I've read reports of snakes doing it).

Yoshi's body isn't elongated like a snakes, and I don't think he has ever eaten anything bigger than himself. The jaw thing is possible.

I said it might be possible. And just because his body isn't elongated doesn't mean he can't have those traits. So does that idea seem plausible enough to keep and allow us to move on, or should we discuss it further?
