Let's make a list of all of the information age cities in the Mushroom World. Here's the ones I can think of.
Twilight City--shown in Mario vs. Donkey Kong; a bustling city, this is where Mario Toy Factory and a lot of construction is.
Mushroom City--shown in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, this seems to be a very large, glittering city. Noted for its capable road system, something not many Mushroom Kingdom cities have. Also, I have a feeling Toad's Turnpike from Mario Kart 64 encircles the Central Business District (the part we saw in MK:DD) and is part of a limited access highway system.
Diamond City--shown first in Wario Land 4 (to my knowledge) and more extensively in Wario Ware. Parts of the city seem to be very dense while other sections (such as the main portion shown in Wario Ware) seem very suburban like. I think it's on Kitchen Island.
Are there any more?

Hmm, I like your idea that Diamond City is on Kitchen Island. And of course, I'm going to make the argument that Big Ape City is somewhere in the Marioverse too. (Here we go again ^_^)

Must we really? We also have to remember Glitzville, of PM2.

Would Glitzville really count as a city? Granted, I havn't played the game yet, but it struck me as rather small.

I dunno... But the game, as I recall, refers to it as a CITY. Besides, you only really get to see small portion of it in PM2. I'm sure there's a flourishing city beind the arena. To always be commuting like that would have killed the place already, finacially.

Ah, I see. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was an aerial city wasn't it?

Yeah, and a one horse town, too. The only things there are the Glitz Pit, a souvenir shop, and a juice joint. There might be something behind the Glitz Pit, but the game never showed anything. Perhaps a residential area or something.
I think another city to mention would be Toad Town. While not ultramodern, it's definitely the biggest city in its area and probably benefits from a healthy tourism industry (because of its vicinity to Peach's castle).

That's a good point. Although, once again I'm not sure whether it could be considered a city or not, if only because of it's size. It never struck me as anything particularly huge. However, I have yet to play it, so...^_^()

Are you speaking of Paper Mario or Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door? Because you really need to play the first one before the second one. There are a lot of little references to the first game in the second one that will increase your enjoyment of the game if you know what they are. I got my used copy of Paper Mario at an Electronics Boutique in Nashville for thirty dollars, but it was broken (it would freeze at random times in the game). So I returned it and bought another one. This one played well until it froze during the character parade at the end. So I had to defeat the last boss once again in order to see the entire parade. It was annoying.

I played through the majority of PM, yes. Unfortunately, my cat peed on my N64 and the whole thing short-circuited. ~_~
True story.

Ok Toad Town is a city. Shops, houses, sea trading port, a bar, what more do you want? ;D

I was thinking that too. It just doesn't have the skyscrapers other important cities have. But maybe there's a height restriction (like in Washington DC) imposed in order to give Peach's castle prominence in the skyline.

There's either not enough resourses, people, and or business to have a large building.

Or to create a lack of easy targets for Bowser.

Bowser never seemed like the kind of killing guy that's evident in other evil dictators. LIKE ME BWA HA HA!!!
I can't recal a time when he actually killed anybody.
Well then again these are mostly kids games here.
