Obviously, putting Smash Bros aside because that would make proving they are all connected much too easy. No, I mean stuff like connections in the character's own games. I am not trying to say that all of these characters live in the same universe, some of them might, but I'm just trying to prove that they are all connected somehow. Mind you I might be missing some stuff, so anyone who sees that I forgot to put in anything, please say so in your post. Here we go!
Mario Universe:
Ok, lets list the connections that Mario has to other universes
DK Universe: Obviously this one. Just about every single spin-off Mario sports/party whatever has had DK involved in it somehow. Recent games have even added Diddy and other Kongs into the fray. Not only that, but Mario's debut game involved him fighting Donkey Kong.
Wario Universe: This one is kind of obvious too, Wario originally appeared as a Mario character.
Zelda Universe: Ok, this one isn't as easy to prove as the first. But there are a few connections that come to mind. One of them (that not too many people know) is that the Warp Whistle from Super Mario Bros 3 actually originated in the Legend of Zelda. It would warp the user to one of 8 different locations in both games (well, I guess you can't warp to World 1, but you know what I mean). Both Warp Whistles even play the same music and both summon a tornado. Link also directly appears in Super Mario RPG, but the whole Warp Whistle thing involved mainstream games from both series. And both of those games were made by the same person. Doesn't that seem to imply something? Also, I might as well mention the Bowser brooches on Talon and Malon in Ocarina of Time and the Happy Mask Salesman's Mario mask.
Kirby Universe: Star Rod. That is all. ... and tons of Mario characters enjoy watching Kirby fight King Dedede and Megaton Punch competitions.
Metroid Universe: Samus in Super Mario RPG
Sonic Universe: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. This is the one connection I'm not too sure of. Scratch that, look at a few SNES games and you will start to see references to the Hedgehog everywhere. I listed one example up in the Donkey Kong section, but another one is that Toadofsky in Super Mario RPG said that he would be forced to write for games about blue hedgehogs. If it is true, that means the Nintendo Universe is connected to Sega's as well.
Pikmin: That annoying ship is floating in the Space Junk Galaxy.
Pokemon: Poke Ball monument in Buoy Base Galaxy
Star Fox: Arwing statue in Super Mario RPG
F-Zero: Same as above but also the Blue Falcon makes an appearance in Mario Kart Wii.
Ok then, so these are the connections that I've noticed between Mario games and other Universes, now lets expand on those.
Zelda Universe: The Keaton Mask. Search it on google or whatever right now. Tell me, what does it look like? The actual Keaton creature looks like what the mask looks like mixed with a Ninetails. Two references to the same series in one character. Pokemon Universe? Check.
DK Universe: Diddy, Conker, and Banjo were in Diddy Kong Racing. So from the looks of it, Rare Universes are connected here too. Also, if you've played Donkey Kong Country 2, you might notice that the champions who have collected the most hero coins are Mario, Yoshi, and Link. That might not seem very important but look at the trash can on the bottom of the screen. Gee those shoes and that Ray Gun look a bit like... but what would a hedgehog and an earthworm in a robot suit be doing in a Donkey Kong game?
Kirby Universe: Here this is connected to Metroid as well. Samus gave Kirby a mission to destroy some Metroids in Kirby's Dreamland 3. Zebes could very well be a planet some light years away from Popstar. Also, Great Cave Offensive. That whole game was essentially a giant Nintendo reference. How bad is it? You sell the Triforce for 30,000 Kirby currency
Metroid Universe: There are Metroids in Kid Icarus.
Rare Universe: Banjo and Kazooie were in a version of Sega Superstar's All-Star Racing. Mario is also mentioned in Nuts and Bolts. Hero Klungo Ssssavesss teh World is a poor man's Super Mario Bros.
Pokemon Universe: Leaving this empty for now, can't think of any branches with this.
Pikmin: Play Pikmin 2, there are more Nintendo references in there than Great Cave Offensive.
Star Fox: Oh boy, is this universe special. This is the one Nintendo series that just loves to make connections with another specific universe. Also, some people think that Animal Crossing is connected to this world, but I'll expand on that more later. In Star Fox Command, one of the endings involves Fox and Falco starting the G-Zero Grand Prix. Yes, that G-Zero Grand Prix
F-Zero: Here I'll list some more connections with Star Fox. James McCloud is a racer. AND HE EVEN WEARS A FOX SUIT.
Animal Crossing: Ok, this one is tough. While it could be connected to Star Fox Universe, it just has so many references to Nintendo games that it actually seems like it ISNT part of the Nintendo Universe. To me, Animal Crossing is just the real world except with talking animals. Seriously, Animal Crossing is better linked to OUR world than any Nintendo World. I mean, they play NES and everything. And they really don't do anything to suggest that any Nintendo characters exist in their world.
Also, any game that has ROB in it has a connection to Mario because of Mario Kart DS. That also means that universe in connected to everything else here too.
Mario was a referee in Punch Out
DK was in Punch-Out
Obviously, I didn't connect EVERY Nintendo Universe to each other. However, I did at least try to connect all of the main ones. Heck, I even connected some minor ones and even other game company's universes. Any comments?
