So that's a link to Mother in the manner of Animal Crossing. Not promising, but Mother was always the vision of one man and that makes it unlikely to be linkable to another IP.
Just to summarize for people who haven't read the whole thread:
- Mario is, of course, strongly linked to its sister/child series DK, Yoshi, and Wario, and weakly to F-Zero, Pikmin, Pokemon, Sonic, Star Fox, Zelda, and Banjo-Kazooie.
- DK is linked to Banjo-Kazooie, and weakly to Zelda, Sonic, Earthworm Jim, and Conker (possibly decanonized).
- Zelda is (by the standards of winks-and-nods) strongly linked to Mario.
- Kirby is linked to Mario and Metroid, and weakly to Zelda.
- Metroid is linked to Kirby, and weakly to Mario.
- Kid Icarus is linked to Metroid, and treats other Mario-group series as video games.
- Star Fox is strongly linked to F-Zero.
- F-Zero is strongly linked to Star Fox.
- Pikmin is linked to...I haven't played Pikmin 2, weakly linked to everything?
- Punch-Out is linked to Mario.
- Animal Crossing and Mother treat the other Nintendo universes as video games.
That idea of some universes linking only to certain others looks better the more you look at it. A graph would be better than writing out these connections, but it looks like expanded Mario is a "hub" universe (not surprising!) from which you can get to most series with only one or two jumps. But if you wanted to cross from Kid Icarus to Star Fox, you'd probably have to go from Skyworld through Space Pirate-controlled space to Popstar to the Mushroom Kingdom to Mute City to the Lylat System.
It's especially interesting that Nintendo's four IPs with old connections to interplanetary travel aren't all connected but pair up two by two. I wouldn't have guessed Kirby and Metroid were linked.
