So wait, let's get this straight... Artemendo got a girlfriend and didn't mention it because of a stupid gimmick I didn't actually even know existed? Sorry, that's outright pathetic, especially when it starts affecting the site and causing its permanent closure, it's irrelevant what your personal life is like when you run a website.
And because of some disagreements, you closed down Waluigious (which had absolutely nothing to do with any of these problems and could have been perfectly fine being on hiatus or under someone else's management) for good?
Okay, screw this. If you'd not let your personal life get in the way of Waluigious I wouldn't have cared less. Heck, I don't particularly care what people's relationship status is as long as they can keep doing what they were doing previously (in this case, running a Mario fan site). But I honestly can't be bothered to care about the Mario community here any more due to how overblown this whole thing and I'd like to say that if anyone wants to talk to me, I'll be on my own forum and various other sites where people don't let their personal problems get in the way of the community. No Waluigious = no interest in much of the Mario fandom. I'll stick to my Mario book and articles.
As for Mario Smorgasbord, it's okay, but it's nowhere near as interesting as Waluigious. Plus I have little to no interest in blog posts with purely pictures or videos as content.
Bye.

Holy carp C-M, you don't need to get so worked up about it.
I don't know the gory details about why exactly the site was shut down, but whatever they may be personal or not, it's not our decision to make. Sure, there were other options then closing down the site completely. But whatever Art's reasoning was he was the admin and gets the final say.
Artmentendo may have been one of the best Mario writers out there, but he is by no means the only one. And his departure does not mean the end of Mariology as we know it, regardless of what some people believe.

Okay, please tell me where all these other Mario writers are, because grrr I haven't seen hardly any of them. No, I don't care for fan fiction or Deviant Art. I mean Mario blogs/fan sites like Waluigious that have been updated much in the last few years, aren't just general information like The Mushroom Kingdom and have interesting content that's not just pictures and is entirely about Mario as a series.
There are pretty much none. It still doesn't forgive Artemendo's selfishness, and let's face it, Mariology is pretty much dead, the last posts before this were what, about a week ago? It's not alive, it doesn't even get 10 posts a day. And I bet Waluigious and its closing down partly led to that, it was the only promotion this place ever got.

Sure, Mariology is dead. *is still looking at what the continents are shaped like on Mario's planet in SMG2 while theorizing about the Tanooki Tree in SM3DL and wondering why the effects of the Super Leaf and P-Wing changed* Although I see where you come from.

If you didn't know the whole "caricature of a giant Mario nerd" gimmick existed, maybe you didn't pay enough attention to the blog, including Mario Thoughts. That's not really important, though. It is downright ignorant to say that your personal life is irrelevant to a blog, considering that sometimes there is not enough time to post and deal with your life at the same time. Artemendo can decide to keep the website or not, it belongs to him and only him. You don't get to decide. It is very childish of you to keep throwing a fit over it. Just make your own website if you want to keep posting. Also, wanting to leech off of the popularity of the blog by keeping the name Waluigious is very low. Also, thanks for judging my blog on 3 posts.

So one guy decides to stop posting and an entire fandom dies >_> Okay, please tell me where all these other Mario writers are Um, hello? You're talking to them? Also, have you tried TMK's Mario forum? That's how I found out about this site in the first place. There's a huge Mariology thread there that was started by Kamikaze Koopa himself.

Mariology doesn't die because one guy decides to stop writing. I never read Arte's thoughts on the Mario series and now I'll never be able to. I'm still here. Absolutely nothing has changed. Also, we've been going for quite a while with NOWHERE advertising this place, and yet people still find us. I think we're actually pretty lucky that trolls and spambots haven't come here yet. (Not counting that one that lasted about 2 seconds until Toomai banned it) As long as there is Mario, there will be Mariology.

*starts building a giant fortress of evil and world domination* Erectin' a-
oh, wait, that's maybe a bit too much. *throws it away*
That's why I was thinking about a Mario blog all of us would participate to. It could even fuse with Mario Smorgasbord at some point, if we're lucky enough.
And, Beta, I'm sorry, but it WAS not noticeable. At least it was an extremely minor thing. Sure, the "i'm a mario nerd with no life" thing was brought up once in a while, but did anyone care... ? Also, yes, personal life has an effect when making a blog. That's EXACTLY why Arte shouldn't have hidden he's in a relationship for the sake of a "reputation" nobody even noticed. It'd have gotten rid of the "i'm a mario nerd with no life" thing but that wouldn't have made Artemendo into an entirely different person, or something, and it'd have given a much less dramatc reason to stop updating, instead of "i'll quit the mario fandom forever for some reason". Heck, maybe Waluigious would still exist right now.
And I personally think your blog will have success. It just needs time.

It doesn't have any effect for me. Maybe I was somewhat harsh, who knows? But if people bring up their personal life in a blog that's not about their life, I unsubscribe. Easy as that. It's why I do not follow most 'popular' blogs, it ends up being more about the person than the topic. If a site's about gaming, I have no interest in their personal life/social/political/religious/philosophical views that do not directly tie in to gaming. If Artemendo had either just said in some random irrelevant place that he had a girlfriend or not, fine. But it's not a reason to shut a site down for. I honestly do not care And so what about your time? If I don't have time to post on my own sites one day, I just don't post that day. I don't shut the whole site due to life circumstances. Who cares? Money wins. I love the sad attempts at ethics practiced by people on the internet, all their whining about others taking their ideas or work. Not trademarked, doesn't care much. Okay, maybe this was harsh, but truth be told, it's how the real world works. People judge websites based on first appearances. Do you know how long your average user stays at a web page? www.useit.com/alertbox/page-abandonment-time.htmlLess than a minute. Maybe even less than TWENTY SECONDS. I judged it far longer than that, it's just at this time I have no interest in the content. Maybe I'd read it more if longer articles get posted. It does have a great design though. Mariology the topic gets maybe three posts a day at maximum and has last been updated in August. That's not quite active enough for my liking. Then again, nor is the Mushroom Kingdom as a website this day and age. Remember I'm used to forums with activity. As for the activity here, while I do check a few times a week or month, it's kind of depressing to see a forum with less than 200 members in more than five years running. Hardly active.

Artemendo mentioned personal stuff on both blogs, even about the other co-writers, and you stayed! I thought this community was supposed to be nice and care for each other, well, in your case, boy was I wrong. Nice way to show your respect for Artemendo! It's like whining if someone quits Youtube or deviantART and didn't give YOU their username because of the exposure it got. Disrespecting someone for not just giving away their personal things to you isn't going to get you anything but negativity in return! Also, I do have ideas for many more posts with more writing on Mario Smorgasbord, but right now, I have lots of other things to worry about.

What I can make out from my nosebleed seat to the show:
1. Artemendo decided that his relationship with his girlfriend was more important than his relationship with his online readership. Good call. He then decided to end his relationship with his readership in the manner patented by teenagers desperate for attention; quitting the fandom forever, without explanation. Very bad call.
2. Said online readership (including me) was left confused and hurt; confused, because Artemendo didn't have the online persona of an emo teenager, and hurt, because we really liked Waluigious and losing the archives and author in one blow cripples this small segment of the fandom.
3. After a few months of confusion and shock, Beta comes to explain the situation and we find out that there was no psychotic breakdown or religious conversion involved. Instead, Artemendo had decided that having a happy life with a geeky girlfriend was incompatible with his online life, and instead of posting that personal life would slow down Waluigious's publishing schedule, or handing the torch on to Cheatmaster30, or closing the blog with a farewell message and leaving the archives up, he went for the most dramatic route. This didn't go over well with the online readership, since we don't see any contradiction in being obsessive nerds and having a love life.
4. Yet more drama, as the readership vents their feelings regarding the previous bout of drama, and Beta defends her boyfriend against their claims to Artemendo's writing as a common resource.
The sooner this show is over, the better for everyone. An apology, on anyone's part, is too much to ask for; but can't we acknowledge that a lot of feelings were bruised?

Well, now Mario Smorgsabord and its connected Deviant Art group have been shut down as well, with the posts apparently being deleted earlier today. I guess this whole new Mario Blog thing worked about as well as every other attempt to make a new Mario blog under the sun: First it was Coin Heaven... Which has been deleted. Then The Nintendo Fan.... luigi821.blogspot.com/Then We Are Nintendo... tehlivingpencil.blogspot.com/And then Waluigious itself... And now Mario Smorgsabord. I think there was another one too, Mario sister or something? That got shut down some time in between as well... Wow, I guess the Mario fandom has been nearly obliterated now. Every 'intelligent Mario site' under the sun (including my own old one) is permanently closed or deleted, the fan sites are (bar Mario Wiki apparently) nearly dead and it seems the fans have packed up shop. But some appropriate music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cLcO4DK-xkOr, considering it's nearly christmas... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zb4bz4kkNhM&feature=relatedBut wow, it's depressing to see that not one intellectual Mario fan site even exists any more. Or that now people are just deleting them left and right and that as well as Mario's Smorgsabord, Coin Heaven has deleted everything and vanished. I guess I can say Waluigious and its 'legacy' have been lost to the ages now.

Sorry guys, I've been way too busy (and lazy, and uninspired) to actually sit down and write full articles for Mario Smorgasbord, but I do have ideas written down for the future when things are going smoother in life... in the meantime, I've made a Mario-themed Tumblr blog, since there are basically no good ones existing. suppermariobroth.tumblr.com/Um, I hope it isn't against any rules to be posting this...

I've been planning to make a Mario blog for about a month, and I finally opened it yesterday. I'll link to it on here once I have a couple of posts. Artemendo will be helping me maintain it. I like it. You have a lot of rare photos on there. It reminds me of the Bow on Birdo bowonbirdo.tumblr.com/I'm following you.
