...In Super Paper Mario doesn't make anysense, because we know that the Mario Universe is 3D, yet the power is given to Mario in the story. How do we explain this?

He was really seeing the world in 4-D when he flipped?

SPM seemed to take place in a different dimension then the Mushroom Kingdom, so maybe this world was normally view in 2D. That's why everyone looked flat when you flipped to 3D.

Now that's been my theory for the longest time. I've been thinking about writing a sort of Fan-fiction for SPM (partially scrapped), and I've been trying to wrap my brain around the logic behind the 2D and 3D platforming in that game. I imagine that Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and his minions might have been a bit discombobulated having to deal with moving around in a 2D world, while they were used to 3D.

kingkoopaDimmension 1 = You can see forward and backwards but not up/down or to the sides. Dimmension 2 = You would can see forward and backwards, and to the sides, but not up/down. Dimmension 3 = You can see forward and backwards, to the sides, and up/down. Dimmension 4 = Time itself. ...Welp, that theory is out, but thanks for teh input. PDooganWell, all of the Worlds in Super Paper Mario, excluding the Aftergame, are sub-universes of the Mushroom Universe, so I guess it's possible that they we'rn't created 3D.

In SPM, the Mushroom Kingdom is in 2D too.

Isn't it more 'one dimensional is seeing only forwards and backwards', 'two dimensional also allows you to see up and down' and 'three dimensional allows you to see in all directions'? Because you can go up in SMB 3 and SMW, but you can't go sideways.

Because you can go up in SMB 3 and SMW, but you can't go sideways. Here's a better explanation, think about it in terms of math: 1D- length 2D- length and height 3D- length, height and width The only reason older Mario games are in 2D is a software limitation. It's still implied that the world is 3D, we just can't see that in the game. Because SPM makes a point of telling us that that world is in fact in 2D it becomes a fact. Also, even though some of the SPM world shared a lot in common with the mushroom world, there were still a lot of differences. All those weird equations in the sky, and those unique creatures, etc.

In SPM, the Mushroom Kingdom is in 2D too. But you never see Mario "flip" in the Mushroom Kingdom, so it coulv'e very well been 3D but we didn't see it for the ake of consistency throughout the game.

But then what would happen if Mario used his flip ability in the Mushroom Kingdom ?

But then what would happen if Mario used his flip ability in the Mushroom Kingdom ? The space/time continuum would break and there would be no more Mario games.....or......something.

KoopalmierEither nothing, or he would flip to 2D... Presumably nothing.

Or maybe he'd slip between 3th and 4th dimension.

But you can't slip into time... Can you?

Well, according to Slaughterhouse 5, you can see it, forwards and back.
I mean, so long as you're a green plunger with a hand on the end of the shaft and an eye where the palm should be.

But then what would happen if Mario used his flip ability in the Mushroom Kingdom ? Why would it have it in the Mushroom Kingdom? For all we know you can only get it in the Flipsiders' dimension.

He means Mario probably wouldn't lost the ability, even if he left Flipside, so he was wondering what would happen if he used it outside of there.

I like the idea that it does the opposite effect.

VentI like that idea. It's simple, and it works, although one has to question, how would it benefit Mario to switch into 2D? It would just limit him.
