KoopalmierNo. The Mario series is a media franchise. Sure, it started off as just a series of video games. But, it's evolved into something much more than that. A lot has changed since 1981.

I'm pretty sure we only consider the games canon though. Maybe aspects of comics or cartoons, but mainly the games.

The Mainstream Games are the highest tier of Canon, followed by RPG's and other Spin-off Games(As long as Nintendo was involved with Development), and finally comes the Cartoons, Comics, and Games with no input from the Big N(*cough*HotelMario*cough*). Anything in the 2nd Tier must line up witht the 2st Tier to be Canon(Small Things can be Overlooked), and anything in the 3rd Tier must line up with both the 1st & 2nd Tiers... Which the Cartoons do not do.

Oh, yeah. Kirby is also a media franchise, then. I disagree with you about everything, so I'll leave the debate to the other guys.

It's interesting that you should mention Kirby, because he has a well-made anime under his belt. It may not be canon. But, it has some excellent ideas in it.
I view it in the same way I view the Mario cartoons.
Look, I'm not saying that the cartoons, comics, or the movie are canon. Obviously they're not. But, that doesn't mean that it's outlandish or ridiculuous to use some of their ideas to help explain some of the unaddressed concepts in the actual continuity. Be reasonable.

I quite agree with you, there. There's no harm in taking ideas from non-canon sources to explain things.

^ Not this
Taking ideas, that's OK. But not seeing them as being canon. As being interesting theories, to the best.

I still don't see what's so wrong about accepting a popular idea as canon, until it's disproven...

Because the things thar prove it aren't canon.

No, there aren't. The things that you stated earlier still don't disprove it. For all we know, they could have come from Brooklyn BEFORE the events of Donkey Kong. Also, there's a good chance that Big Ape City might not even exist, because it's in a game with questionable canonicity.
Why is it okay to guess Mario's age (which has never been addressed and, therefore, doesn't have any chance of being properly deduced), but it's ridiculous to think that the Mario Bros. come from Brooklyn (which, despite being unofficial, has at least been mentioned in several official products that were released by Nintendo)?

"Why is it okay to guess Mario's age" ? What are you talking about ? If you're talking about that other topic, it's not to guess Mario's age and to make it a fact for us, but to see what people think. Mario has no age.
And, as you said, it's unofficial. End of story.

Well, you realize that the point of this thread wasn't to make Mario's given name and home a fact for us either, right...?
You're the one who started saying that it was ridiculous and began trying to disprove it. >_>

You said you accept it. Thus it's a fact for you.

Maybe for me (and a temporary fact, at that). But, I was never trying to force it on you guys. I just wanted to see what everyone thought, like you did on your thread.
