Look again. In order, you see 3 pictures: - One at night time, where the comet is in the sky and stuff is falling. - One at day time, where Toads are holding Star Bits and a Grand Star. - One at night time, where Toads are around the Grand Star. The game presumaly starts during that night. So they celebrate it two nights. Just because it is there multiple nights doesn't mean they celebrate it multiple times. Peach clearly ask Mario to visit her on "THE" night of the Star Festival. Not "A" night. "The" implies there is only one. I don't think that Rosalina reset the Universe, she's nowhere near powerful enough to do that! But I believe either A)When the Lumas caused the Black Hole to implode, the massive amounts of energy sent everyone back in Time to the begining of the Star Festival. Or B)After the even, Rosalina made them believe it was the morning of the Star Festival. I'm leaning strongly on the second, and even though they forgot the event itself, they retained some memory(almost like a dream), as seen by the Luma taking such a quick liking to Mario(though it could just be naive). This.

How do we know SMG2 takes place during "THE Star Festival"? I don't remember anyone mentioning anything about a Star Festival, it just tells you the controls, then this luma pops up and takes a liking to Mario, then Bowser appears and flies off with the princess to build his empire out in space and have Peach bake him a huge cake.

At the begining, the subtitle state "The Star Festival had just begun, Toads everywhere were celebrating...". Note that it says "Just Begun" meaning that this is THE morning of THE Festival.

Hey you're right. I guess I never really noticed that text at the bottom of the screen. So anyway, is it possible that when Peach mentioned THE night of the Star Festival, she was referring to the night signifying the START of the Star Festival? Just a thought.

I can't say anything here. My version of SMG2 states different things.

Well, it's good to hear all sides of the story, so, what does yours say?

Mine doesn't say the Star Festival just started, and there aren't things contradicting SMG (like the captain of the Toad Brigade being called "the new captain" by the Blue Toad at a point of the game, or, well, the Star Festival just starting). It really looks like a sequel to SMG with simply another Toad Brigade. But it was translated from English, not from Japanese, and we know NoA tends to change things, so... Someone should try to know what is said in the original version. There are japanese walkthroughs on YouTube. But does anyone here knows some Japanese, except for sarisa ?

Nope, and my internet can't translate it either.

I wish I could learn Japanese. I live in a small town and have too much work at school to concentrate on anything else, and I'm not sure I'm intelligent enough to learn a new language anyway (actually I'm better at English than at French, although I don't know how did I learn English). Sigh.

Yay !
So the possibility that this is the new Star Festival from the Grand Finale Galaxy level is back, as the statement saying it just started contradicts that.
+ Welcome back !
+ Where did you get that quote ?

It isn't in the French version. Surprisingly, the European versions (but the English one) added their own sauce too, instead of either following the Japanese or the American version. However it's still translated from the American one.
There should be a Japanese walkthrough somewhere. I remember falling on one once ago. And it's not hard to find an American one. I'll search where is that quote about the "new captain", if I remember well it's said by the Blue Toad.
This is off-topic, but are you Japanese, or did you simply learn Japanese ?

D amn it. I wish I could learn Japanese. But I don't have time to do so, and I doubt I'm intelligent enough to learn a new language (I'm better at English than at my native language - French. :/ ). Well, nice to know that. I'm listening to some music then I'll go search every quote in SMG2 that counterdicts SMG1.

After all this is too tedious work (for me, that's it). Do you have a lot of knowledge of the Japanese language ? If so, here's a part of the game that contradicts SMG1. Here, the Toad Brigade Captain apparently just met Mario and didn't have a Starshroom before. Is it the same in the Japanese version ? If not, then I doubt there are other contradicting statements. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbmXsvZhMU0 (ignore the voice) (go to 3:13)
