The thing that makes me think it was the real Bowser is the fact that Madam whats-her-name the fortune teller says something about Bowser being soundly defeated. I forgot the exact quote, but she made it sound like he was dead. And who better to bring him back to life than the king of ghosts?

But then it'd mean Bowser is dead, as after the final battle the "Bowser" becomes inactive and "dies". Plus you can see some LM portraits in MKDS (on the Luigi's Mansion circuit), and you can see the fake Bowser but not King Boo. My guess is that between Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Luigi's Mansion, Bowser challenged Mario to take his revenge for what happened in Paper Mario but Bowser died in the battle. King Boo revived him but in exchange Bowser had to leave him create a haunted suit, based on the Koopa King's body and abilities.
The final boss of LM could also be a poltergeist created by both Bowser and King Boo, but I somewhat doubt that considering how his head can go back in the wrong direction (like if the fake Bowser was a mere suit).

Maybe King Boo just stole one of the "Fake" Bowser suits from SMB and tLL.

The Fake Bowsers in SMB and TLL were basic minions that were transformed. Not suits.

I know but there is a Suit that serves the same Purpose in MP8, I was just ssuming they were the same thing.

So, here's what I can Conclude, King Boo is the Big Boo from Super Mario 64, who was made Ultra-Powerful and King of the Boo's by Bowser(Via Shine Sprites). But his body was incredibly Distorted in the Process! After the Events of Super
Mario Sunshine, he Lost all but a little Power, and his Rank of Kingship. He then returned to his Mansion in Boo Woods where he trained, and grew more Powerful in his thirst for Revenge! He then Captured the Plumber who defeated him 4 Times in the Past, but was Sealed in a Portrait by Luigi! He remained Trapped in the Portrait until Kamek released him to Enlist in the Koopa Troop once again! This time however, he was defeated by Princess Peach, hopefully for good!

Lol, haha, King Boo. He's been defeated by Mario, Luigi, Peach, probably Yoshi, next he's going to be defeated by toad. It just get's worse for him every time.  |

That honestly wouldn't Surprise me. But Ii don't think his appearance in Spin-Offs is Canon, and I'm pretty sure he Died in Super Princess Peach.

He can't die. He's a ghost. Well, not really, but he's a bodyless spirit at least. So, yeah, he can't die.

Well he can feel Pain, and if he can take Physical Damage, he can Die. Plus, I know it doesn't much matter, but he Blew up after she[The Princess] Defeated hi!

Boos can feel pain, Boos can die of natural death (or at least they can age), but Boos can't die before their time has come because they don't even have a body. It is said in SM64. Boos are souls, yet they are living, but don't have a body.

Luigi's Mansion came before Sunshine for two reasons. His crown, that special crown of his that he got for his first appearance was not there in SMS. Why wasn't it there? Because Luigi took it in Luigi's Mansion. Also in LM he has a hatred for Luigi, yet if Sunshine was the first time he faced off against Mario, he would have no reason to hate Luigi.

King Boo also hates Luigi because he and Mario teamed up against Boos in SMB3 and SMW.
Also "King" Boo has a crown in SMS.

He means King Boo's more fancy, jewel encrusted crown wasn't there. Mario Sunshine and all later Mario games with him use a more basic, standard looking one straight from the charity shop.

There is also the whole blue eyes thing but even still, if he was directly defeated by Mario in SMS then he would still have no reason to hate Luigi to the point of turning him into a painting. The whole they fought Boos in SMB3 and SMW thing could work for both sides, plus I don't think that Mario killed that many boos in those games

As I said, Boos can't die until their natural death (as they are already spirits) but they can still be physically injured.
