EDIT: Now you can put your version of the timeline of other series like the DK one, but only if you merge it with the Mario timeline - as in, you put a DK game's events between two Mario games for instance. It would be a bit messy otherwise.

It was already made in a topic but technically it was off-topic, so here's a true topic for the timelines, discussion about them and stuff. For your conveniance (or not ololz1) I'll edit this post whenever someone posts its version of the timeline, so that all versions can be found without having to search in the topic.

However, watch out ! If you didn't finish your timeline but still want to post what you've done yet, say it.
I have the rights to edit your timeline - for instance, if you forgot something I can add it.

MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF THE SERIES' TIMELINE

Koopalmier

- ? ~ The Four Sages of Light (Merlimbis, Merlight, Merloo, Merlumina) create the worlds. They use special devices called "Star Rod" to make the construction easier.
- ? ~ The Tribe of Ancients is created.
- ? ~ The Tribe of Darkness separates from the Tribe of Ancients.
- ? ~ The Mushroom Planet is created. It's predicted to have more importance than any other planet, so they decide to make its Fountain of Dreams much bigger, much like its Star Rod, and to even give it its own semi-deities - the Stars. As such, the Star Spirits are chosen to guard and to use the Star Rod. The Beanstar is also created.
- ? ~ Merloo gets no respect or recognition although he did the biggest work at creating the worlds. Merlumina is admirated merely because of her beauty (as she didn't do anything actually) and that drives Merloo to insanity. He disguises himself into a jester, calls this alter-ego "Dimentio", and writes the Dark Prognosticus.
- ? ~ The Tribe of Darkness separates from the Tribe of Ancients.
- 1000 B.C. ~ The Pixl Uprising happens. After it's fixed, the Pixl Queen gets sent at the bottom of Flopside's Pit of 100 Trials, and all Pixls get sealed around the dimensions.
- 500 B.C. ~ The Four Sages of Light (but Merloo) discover about the Dark Prognosticus. Merlimbis and, ironically, Merloo are given the duty to study the Dark Prognosticus and to write a book that'd counter its ending - the Light Prognosticus. Merlimbis then concentrate all the power of love to make the Purity Heart - which would presumaly counter the Chaos Heart - and splits it into eight parts. Merlumina must guard one.
- 920 ~ Kuzzle is born.
- 970 ~ Chakron is born.
- 984 ~ Durmite is born.
- 1004 ~ The Shadow Queen takes over a city.
- October 30, 1004 ~ The Shadow Queen is sealed, but the city is destroyed. During the following 1000 years, a town called Rogueport will be created on the city's remains.
- 1004 ~ The Luff empire of the Waffle Kingdom collapses and the Marvelous Compass is divided into seven parts.
- 1005 ~ The Dark Star is discovered underground and tries to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom. He's sealed by the Star Sprites, who had to sacrifice themselves to do so. The Star Cure is divided into three Star Vaccines, which are given to three different sages who stop aging until they don't have these vaccines anymore. These are Durmite, Kuzzle and Chakron.
- 1698 ~ Rosalina Toadstool is born.
- 1703 ~ One day, Rosalina finds a spaceship, which crashed near the Mushroom Kingdom's castle. There's a young Luma inside, who's waiting for his mother to come. Him and Rosalina become friends, and they wait for the mother to come take her son.
- June 1, 1705 ~ The Luma's mother is still not coming, so Rosalina repairs the spaceship and goes in space with the Luma. They eventually found a weird, blue comet and start to create the Comet Observatory around it.
- 1705 ~ Rosalina's mother dies of sickness.
- 1705 ~ Rosalina becomes the "mother" of all Lumas.
- June 1, 1805 ~ The Comet Observatory goes near the Mushroom Kingdom's sky.

- 1985 ~ Merlon (Flipside) discovers Timpani's seriously hurt body. He saves her from death by transforming her into a Pixl. She lost memory though, and can only remember a part of her name: Tippi.

- 1999 ~ Bowser is already 20, so Kamek decides to create a true clone of him, who'd act more as a child than as a mere minion, and who'd become the next king.

- 2002 ~ Bowser's new castle is constructed at the very north of the continent. His previous castle becomes his children's property.

- December 2002 ~ Because of his new popularity, Mario decides to settle in the Mushroom Kingdom. He buys a small house a few kilometers away from Peach's castle. Luigi constructs his own house on an island.
- December 2002 ~ Bowser's Castle is moved to the north-eastern part of the Mushroom Kingdom, while a supplementary castle is made in the sky.
- January 2, 2003 -> January 3, 2003 ~ During the night, Bowser and his army take over the Mushroom Kingdom. Under Bowser's rules, Warp Pipes are added, many Block patterns are changed, and some Toads are kidnapped alongside Princess Peach.

- April 2003 ~ Mario goes on vacation.
- April 2003 ~ Bowser launches his plan: with the help of a vengeful Foreman Spike, he constructs many buildings in the north-western part of the kingdom.
- April 29, 2003 ~ Star Carnival.

- August 2005 ~ Similarly to how Baby Mario, Baby Luigi and DK Jr. were recreated as clones, Baby DK and Baby Daisy are made too. Because two DK clones is too much, DK Jr. is "scrapped".

In general, it’s been commonly assumed the Mario series and it’s spinoffs was too complicated to be fit into a single, logical chronology due to the way it’s been designed, and even my Mario and Philosophy Book holds it as not having any order to it, due to it’s overly complex design. But what if, instead of the limited rubbish you read online by only half qualified near illiterate people known as journalists and bloggers saying a very limited version of a real timeline in the series, there was actually a logical way every single game and event in the series (bar educational games outside the Mushroom World) was connected that wouldn’t require any split timelines? That’s what I hope to achieve.


Before Mario Games

Dark and Light Prognosticus Written (happened before Pixl uprising/war, since queen was created using instructions from the dark book). Dimentio (who possibly wrote it) has more determination than any other villain to date...

Pixls created (see Super Paper Mario), Pixl War where ancients got enslaved and freed after two distinct revolutions, general backstory details, not important.

Ancient City predating Rogueport built and ruled, ancient empire, Shadow Queen first existed.

(1000 years ago) Great Cataclysm destroys old town where Rogueport stood (Paper Mario 2), heroes seal away Shadow Queen, Rogueport gets built on the site of the old town.

Star Spirits and Star Haven came into being. (Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG pre events)
Crystal Stars created, possibly Pure Hearts created and Star Rod created. (Paper Mario 1, 2 and Super Paper Mario preface)

Dark Star attacked Mushroom Kingdom, sealed beneath Toad Town. (Before Mario and Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story)

Black Jewel attacked far off kingdom, sealed away by Spritelings (Wario World revisits this)

Golden Pyramid and assorted kingdom existed, gets conquered by Golden Diva and Princess Shokora sealed away. God knows why the place has links to a landfill site, factory, cold storage plant, American witch hunt era village, art deco styled hotel from the same place and various toy worlds, but assume magic.

Game Timeline

Yoshi’s Story (Young Yoshis are the heroes, older ones captured by Baby Bowser)

Yoshi’s Island (Baby Mario and Luigi born, meet Baby Bowser and Kamek for first time, older Yoshi).

Yoshi’s Island DS (Intro places it about a year after original game’s events and talks about the bosses and final battle as in the past, another Yoshi get born, presumably the current one. We first see Baby Peach, DK/Cranky and Wario)

Yoshi Touch and Go (Kamek is still attacking Yoshi and Baby Mario, and Baby Mario is still less than three, putting it around here on the timeline).

Tetris Attack (Stars many Yoshi’s Island characters, and many have reformed since the Yoshi’s Island series. Interestingly, I think adult Bowser stars, so that time machine might be in use again here).

Mario and Luigi Partners in Time past settings. Shroobs attack, Mario and Luigi are about two or three, Peach maybe about one, E Gadd is young as is Toadsworth. Twenty or thirty years before main games is a good estimate.

Somewhere along the line, Count Bleck (as Blumiere) loses his love (Timpani), kills his entire tribe of people, gets obsessed with the Dark Prognosticus and spends the time adjacent to the next ten or so games recruiting an army.

Rosalina ends up seeing some Luma, making an observatory and flying through space. Fails to note various invasion fleets from other dimensions and planets though.

Donkey Kong Game and Watch Games (many star the original Donkey Kong, aka Cranky Kong. Some are flat out weird like Donkey Kong Hockey or something, and games like Mario’s Cement Factory and Mario’s Bombs Away could go nearly anywhere between the first arcade game and Mario Bros).

Wrecking Crew and Sequels (not much like any other Mario games)

Now, DK/Cranky goes off somewhere for a while, before he returns a few pages later in the Game Boy game. Mario becomes a plumber, for reasons unknown and heads off to work in some sewer system somewhere.

Mario Bros (After Donkey Kong series).

Now, since Mario is in Big Ape City or wherever, he’s relatively unaware of the mass revolution that takes place back in the Mushroom Kingdom, and Kamek’s prophecy seems fairly accurate, as without a hero to protect it, the kingdom falls to Bowser’s forces.

Mario and Luigi end up back in the kingdom after entering a warp pipe (Big Ape City = another country of Mushroom World, so Bowser didn’t think to attack it. K Rool does though later)

Super Mario Bros (NES)

[All remakes and repeats and games with the exact same graphics and engine as Super Mario Bros 1]

Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan, NES)

Geno retires, his doll physical form is somehow transported to Little Fungitown by people fleeing the Mushroom Kingdom over to the neighbouring Beanbean Kingdom, where it becomes a prop in an arcade machine.

Bowser now gets an army, and invades Princess Peach’s Castle for the power of the 120 Power Stars. He brings the portals to ‘life’, sends in his army and causes terror across 15 random places that until now were nicely being left alone. But Peach had sent a letter to Mario, which means the storyline for a certain game starts off...

More kart racing, and this time Wario and the now adult Donkey Kong join in the festivities.

Bowser has an eighth son called Bowser Jr. He and Jr conquer and cause trouble in Isle Delfino, framing Mario when it turns out Mario and Peach are going there on vacation. Luigi is somewhat annoyed.

Super Mario Sunshine

King Boo also gets defeated by Mario, so he tricks the Mario bros, conjures up a magical mansion filled with ghosts (the ghosts are made by Vincent van Gore) and captures Mario.

Super Mario Ball/Mario Pinball Land (Because King Boo isn’t present yet, but Petey Piranha is, as is a guy very much like Tutankoopa, placing this after both Paper Mario and Super Mario Sunshine but likely before Luigi’s Mansion).

Luigi’s Mansion (because believe it or not, Mario was recently defeated, and Mario would have had to have defeated King Boo in the past for King Boo to have any form of motivations).

Being a complete and utter moron, Peach gets captured and her castle captured, this time for 150 stars. Goomboss, King Boo and some guy called Chief Chilly who no one had ever heard of until now help Bowser, partly in revenge for earlier events.

Mario and co go to help out.

Mario is captured by Goomboss for beating him in Paper Mario, Luigi captured by King Boo for beating him in Luigi’s Mansion and Chief Chilly... doesn’t like Wario’s moustache.

Mario goes with Peach and Toadsworth on holiday to Rogueport, for some reason. Unknown to them, it’s about 999.9 years since the Shadow Queen was sealed away behind the door, and Peach gets tricked by Beldum, and then captured by Grodus and the X Nauts.

After his attacks on Mario, Cranky Kong settles down for a few years and goes more than a tad senile (but still arrogant and cranky in personality). DK becomes an adult, he has various friends and relatives living with him on DK Isle and all goes well for a bit.
Until King K Rool steals poor DK’s banana hoarde, and DK and Diddy go off to stop him.

Donkey Kong Country

K Rool and Cranky Kong have a bet, so K Rool steals the bananas again, and DK/Diddy go off to defeat him again, this time returning to Big Ape City for a bit.

K Rool then captures DK himself, and rushes off to Crocodile Isle, where he... does stuff. Diddy and Dixie go to save DK. K Rool apparently thinks he’s a pirate now.

Crocodile Isle sinks into the ocean.
History repeats itself, and King K Rool/Kaptain K Rool brings Crocodile Isle back, near exactly the same as the last time around.

Donkey Kong Land 2

Crocodile Isle explodes and sinks again. Almost like Metroid then.
A ‘new’ leader called KAOS takes over K Rool’s job and captures all the banana birds. And Donkey and Diddy Kong go missing again.

History repeats again.

Diddy goes off racing with Banjo, Conker and less well known characters to save Timber’s Island from the evil Wizpig.

Now even more mad, King K Rool sets off to destroy DK Isle with his Blastomatic cannon, because apparently bananas are just that important to him. DK, along with Diddy, Tiny, Lanky and Chunky Kong, go off to save the island from King K Rool.

Now, for reasons unknown, DK gets really, really interested in playing Bongoes. No, there’s no real reason for this...

DK suddenly likes toys and steals them from Mario’s Factory. And Pauline appears for some reason. Never the less, he’s on much friendlier terms with Mario this time around, so it’s probably not explainable as Cranky Kong.

Tikis take over, volcano blasts away the DK head on DK Island, and Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong go on another adventure. No idea what happens to poor Funky/Candy/Swanky/Dixie/anyone else or the Kremlings.

You mean Mario and Sonic at the Olympic/Winter Games, or Mario is Missing, or Mario’s Time Machine? Ah, those are set on Earth, they could take place any time they wanted them to.

Mario’s Early Years? Didn’t happen.

Yakuman DS/Itadeki Street? Happened any time you wanted it to happen, it’s like Mario Party or Mario Kart.

Mario Game and Watch Games? After original Donkey Kong games.

Super Mario Bros Special? Didn’t happen.

Mario Teaches Typing? Your guess is as good as mine to when a typewriter fell on a castle

Dr Mario bar N64 game? Beats me.

Mario DDR Mix? Beats me too.

Mario Strikers? Comes under sports games, see where those are listed.
What about Yoshi/Mario and Yoshi? No idea, since Mario’s an adult in a Yoshi game, for the first time in history.

How about Mario Paint? Could go anywhere.

Mario no Photopi? Don’t think I can place that anywhere.

Mario’s Picross could be placed nearly anywhere, Mario Family is a non canon sewing machine pattern maker, Game and Watch Gallery is definitely in the modern part of the series due to the characters, Alleyway isn’t really a Mario game, nor is Golf, or Tennis.

Mario Party-e is placable anywhere.

Notes

I will assume the versions of the games used in the actual timeline are the best technically if changes aren’t major. So you’d have the technical specs and quality of the SNES Yoshi’s Island and Donkey Kong Country games, but the new levels and bosses of the GBA remakes would also be counted as ‘canon’.

Classic NES series games are the same as the originals, as are Virtual Console downloads, and aren’t counted seperately.

Games where Mario was added purely in some markets (Golf), or where Mario is a cameo character (EA’s Gamecube sports games) aren’t listed for obvious reasons.

Does it bother you if I only take the Mario and Yoshi series ? The Waro series and the DK series have little relations to the Mario series, and putting these would only be interesting if it's considered part of the Mario timeline. So please put, for instance, Wario World between two Mario games instead of its own timeline.

Also, the Shadow Queen created the Crystal Stars. Do you want me to edit that (as your timeline says it's created alongside other artifacts) ? Or does that mean other artifacts were made at the same time ?

Honestly, I think we need to see a bit more of Super Mario 3D Land before we can assume the game takes place in the fall. From what I've seen, the game doesn't look too fallish.
