You know, do you think that it would be possible for a regular Koopa Troopa to use magic? I mean Jr Troopa learned how.

Although Jr. Troopa seems meant to be a Koopa Troopa, his magic powers and bat wings are unique. Other Koopa wings are feathered.
With his wing design, if I had to assign a species, I'd guess Koopa Paratroopa (and assume the feathers grow in later unlike real wings).

Well, there could very well be a species of bat-winged Paratroopas. The Octolots/Octovaders in SMRPG were being hoisted into the air by a pair of bat-winged Koopa shells.

Ialways assumed they were just part of the Smithy Gang, therefore their "Batwing shells" could've been another technology.

A lot of Smithy Gang members seem to be variants of species in Mario's world anyway, this makes sense since we know (thanks to SMG) that the space surrounding the planet is mostly occupied by the same/similar species to those on Mario's world.
Maybe Jr. Troopa is the son of a couple of bat-winged Koopas that came from some far-off Galaxy.

I don't understand. Do you mean about Koopa Troopas seen in SMG? Because they probably just flew the airships to those galaxies. Same with Goombas and Pirannha Plants.

And most of the "aliens" you fight in the SMG games (like Octoombas) were most likely creations of the Koopa army. Why'd they have a monster plant otherwise ?
Also, I say all Koopa Paratroopas have bat wings, but those have feathers on them.

I'm not sure how canon the monster plant is, actually. While your version has it, my American version doesn't.

But, does that necessarily mean that the Japanese one is the higher canon?

The Japanese one is the original one. Any other translations are made by different people with different knowledge (I'm pretty sure the people who translated SMRPG never played SMW) and who may even change some characters completely (Fawful never had fury before).
No, really, why wouldn't the original be the higher canon ?

But, does that necessarily mean that the Japanese one is the higher canon? Yes. In the case of a question that hinges on wording, the original version (which is almost always Japanese) is canon. Thankfully, Fawful's general personality doesn't seem to have been changed, although I find his fractured English funnier than strings of -rururu. Since the latest pictures of Paratroopa wings look like feather-covered fingers (unlike bird wings), that makes the feathered-bat-wing theory attractive to consider. Unfortunately, without more evidence, it's hard to advance further.

Almost all of Fawful's text was changed in the US version. It still gets the point, but not always. His final text is way different than in the Japanese version, for instance. Also don't you think it's strange he "has fury" when he's always smiling and laughing ?

@koop&Sarisa: Alright, you two make good points about Japanese canon. I no choice but to agree.
By the way Koop, Fawful can have fury while appearing happy. Let's not forget the fact that he's insane.

Criminally insane, might I add, and I do enjoy the "Engrish" of Fawful a lot.

When it comes to Fawful, I'll take the American version over the others any day.

Let's not forget the fact that he's insane. I mean, he doesn't seem to be very furious. The only violent act he did was taking over Bowser's Castle (as he attacked it with firepower) and he didn't even do it directly.

I'm not talking about his sanity, I'm talking about his fury. He simply isn't angry at all, more like overenjoyed. That's why they changed his catchphrase to "I have chortles". I don't say that this character change is a bad thing, only that the third game kinda contradicted it and they had to change something they established.
On-topic: Do you think Bowser is the one who taught to Hammer Bros. how to use hammers as a weapon ?

Considering the fact that he himself knows how to do it as well, I'd say that's a pretty safe bet.
