Sorry if there's a double topic... It's probably somewhere in another board.
What do you think Peach even put the paintings in her castle for that could be used as portals? I think she put portals in there so that she could get to places easier, without needing transportation or guards, but the manual I don't have probably states otherwise.

The paintings work the same way as warp pipes do except the paintings are one-way only.

If they are one-way, how is Mario allways jumping back out of them?

I've never thought of that. Maybe he uses Power Star power and returns.
Another Question arises: What did Peach want the Lava Land portal for?

Maybe they had some kind of rare resource there. Or it could be used for punishment. It was in the dungeon.

Some people like to see lava once in a while

Which brings up the off-topic question of why MIPS was put in the dungeon. =P
That's obviously it. I don't think that Bob-Omb Battlefield was filled with Bob-Ombs before Bowser came, though, if we follow this theory.

No, it was. Pink ones.

I find it hard to beleive the paintings were used as portals. After all, there are non portal paintings littered all over the second floor. And why didn't they use warp pipes for traveling?

To keep them secrete. They didn't want anyone else to know about them. And obviously, if you see a pipe your going to be thinking, "hmm...wonder were this leads, I better jump into it and find out.." Rofl....

Yes. It's Peach's castle, if she wanted to go places, then she'd use the paintings. Why else would there be a whole room for a few?
@ Shadowgoomba: I meant black ones.

I know, but it wouldn't be a battlefield without two sides. Pink Bob-ombs are the most likely defending force.

Good point. I guess she put that painting in because she wanted to stop the war?

Or she could have already wanted to visit it. It begs the question why there are black Bob-ombs in the painting, though. You're probably right.

Maybe King Bob-Omb wasn't always evil until Bowser bribed him with power stars and troops.
EDIT: But the Reds could still be fighting against the King, they may have been deemed evil at the beginning though.

Look, I seriously doubt peach intentionally put the paintings there for use as portals. Bowser probobly made them like that so he could hide the stars there.

Why make a painting Mario has access to? If that were true, he would have hid them in his room. The problem is, the painting were too big for the door.

Actually, he sealed all the doors shut with the stars remember? He might have forgot to do the Bob-omb one.

I think he was rushed. He had just enough time to find the stars in the castle (and even so, missed 15 of them) and scattered them around haphazardly putting whatever big minion was up to it in charge of the star. He made the seals last, starting with the important doors (between floors and Bowser levels), then the bottom floor. But he only had enough time to seal the Princess's secret slide, Whomp's Fortress, Jolly Roger Lagoon, and Cool, Cool Mountain. Mario got there before he could seal Bob-omb's Battlefield, which turned out to be fatal to Bowser. This is why none of the other doors are sealed.

Right. After all, how long a time really took place between Peach writing the letter and Mario ariving at the castle? Mario took warp pipe to get there, but how long would it take for the letter to get to mario?
