I don't see why SML is more important than Mario Golf Toadstool Tour. They both show us parts of Mario's life. One is more adventurous than the other, but both could've happened on the same timeline.

The more I think about it, the less sence that movie makes. I think I'm taking it out of the timeline just for simplicities sake.

Yeah the movie I think probably is in some different canon (there was apparently going to be sequel but it was canned).

Maybe it's like an alternate universe version of the Mario brothers' story.
