This could be a tie-in to Smash Bros...Maybe only those with star power (or its equivilant) can participate, in which case it shows who has it and who doesn't.

I think alot of the stuff that happened in SSB is impossible. It's really seems more like something Nintendo made up then could really happen. (...) Just about everything shown in those games would end up killing every opponent within the first few fights.

That can be explained in two ways. First, we could simply say that the characters' superhuman stamina is just an "in-game thing," as we discussed in another thread. Or we could say that it was due to enhancement by Master Hand.
I've said this before, but I would really like to believe that SSB and its sequels actually happened.

Gettin off subject... But who else do we know that has star power (In this day and age) and why aren't they out doing somthing, well...super? Star power probably doesn't appear in nature in large enough ammounts besides Star Haven. Unless somebody could somehow steal Delfino's Shine Sprites again and Peach's castle's Power Stars, I don't think anybody has acess to it.

But isn't it more of something one is born with rather then somthing given to you by an object?

That would tie into the plot of Yoshi's Island.

Where have we seen star power being given to a person from an object? I don't remember anything like that.

The only instance I could think of is Mario in the Paper Mario games, but he already had star power to begin with so that dosen't really count.

He didn't start out the game with star power, he got it after he earned a crystal star or saved a star spirit.

I always considered having star power to be the ability to jump high/punch through bricks/being able to survive stuff that would probably kill almost anyone else.

Which he could have recieved somehow by staying in the Mushroom World.

But he was born in the Mushroom World.

The Paper Mario games' star power system could just be Mario learning new ways to unleash his kinetic star power. He and Luigi have the abilities within them; sometimes they simply require objects to help them unlock it.

I think he means that and also the crystal stars.

Abilities can probably be used in other ways too, such as being told by Toads how to do stuff in SMGxy. The actual conversation would be different than saying "press B", but the meaning would be the same: learning how to use hidden powers.

So do all of those in the Smash tournaments have star power?

Ehhh...that's debatable, considering magic doesn't exist in some of their worlds. But popularity and fame definately have something to do with it.
