Seems like a lot of stuff in the Marioverse that is sentient wouldn't be sentient in our world. Why do you think that is?

There's a possibility that all the games are simply in Mario's head and he's just tripping out through out the entire series ^_^.
Seriously though, I'm not sure why things would be inanimate in our universe and animate on theirs. Perhaps there is a certain Gaia-type spirit which resides in their planet, thus giving noticable life to the hills and trees and such. Same could go for the clouds. We know that there are some deities (at least, beings who believe they are deities) in the Marioverse. The Thunder and Fire gods from Mario&Luigi are a good example of this. And the two characters from Mario Party 6 that represent day and night (I forget their names). And then of course there's the Stars from the Paper Mario games, Gino and Smithy from SMRPG, and so on.
Anyway, since there are some celestial spirits that inhabit the Star Road, I don't see why there can't be elemental like entities that inhabit the planet and the sky and everything.

There's entities on Star Road?
The beings might just be powerful people that got some crazy magic.
And I thought up the coolest thing for the crystal king! ( Paper mario )
This is way before the games story: Theres a white clubba, and he's like " Please rise for, the Crystal, King."
And then this guy ( I used a Yoshi ) dressed up with crystals wisps himself onto a throne of crystals.
Could the Crystal King be some ruler now dead?
Could Bowser have brought him back to life for the whole Star Spirit capture thing?
Why can't he be a Yoshi?
When I scan a pic your minds will blow.

No, the Star Road is definitely a place inhabited by supernatural entities. Those guys aren't plain mortals. And I like your idea about the Crystal King.

Do you mean Star Road (as in SMW) or Star Haven (as in Paper Mario)?
Have any of you played Paper Mario up to Star Haven?

No, I never finished the first Paper Mario. I've been talking about Star Road because it's mentioned most frequently.

Star Road is just a group of random levels.
Their isnt really anybody there that rules it.

I'm not saying anybody rules it. But I am saying that there are certain celestial entities that dwell there.

Kamikaze, if it's in your power, you gotta finish Paper Mario. It's excellent. How far did you get?

None of my friends are gamers. Trust me, if I could have done that I would have already. I just need to find an emulator.

I think N64s are pretty cheap these days. Do any of the parts to your old one still work?
