Since we have this descussion going on in two ar three seperate topics at the moment, I thought I'd just make a thread for it. Here's what I've thought up so far. Note: If you see a character not on here, (e.x: boomerang bros, magikoopas) It means I think they belong to one of the groups stated below.

That's preatty cool. Let's all compile a large list of every single type of koopa there is. Dose that sound like a good idea?

I believe it has been stated that the "four-legged koopas" are actually beetles.

The blue, spinless one is a beatle and the red single spike spike top is a beattle. The rest are koopas so we should take those 2 out and leave the rest.
I'de also like to point out that it looks like spike top has 6 legs. That would make sense seeing how it's a beattle, but it looks like it's freind buzzy beattle there only has 4 legs. Perhaps 2 of the legs have been evolved into modified something or others but I guess that's all for another topic. -_-

Spike tops are related to buzzy beatles, witch are related to spinys, witch are related to shell creapers(4-leged koopas), witch are related to koopas. Therefor, spike tops are distantly related to koopas, the same way we are distantly related to lemurs.

In fact , they probably couldn't be any less related if there line of evolution went anything like ours. Because bugs have been a completly different category of animal ever since the begining. It's more like us being distantly related to say something like beattles. Even if were more evolved than most reptiles, that division goes all the way back to the begining of time so it dosn't really matter.

Have you seen the offishial artwork for the buzzy beatle? It dousn't looks like a insect at all, it looks like a spiney. Names can be misleading.

You're mad, man There are pleanty of noraml looking insects in the marioverse, wiggles, fighter flies, and scuttle bugs just to name a few, but buzzy beatles, dispite the name, don,t look anything like bugs, they look like koopas.

I think Buzzy Beetles are Koopas. They look more like that than any of the other insect creatures. ] Notice that it looks like a koopa with a rounder, pattern-less shell, and a shorter beak. They are very similar.

Exactly, and look how spinys look compared to buzzy beatles: they are oboviouly related and not connected to insects in any way eccept the name. Edit: size not to scale.

New SMB came out after PM2 so it is considered the most up to date version, plus NSMB is in 3-d and PM is in 2-d.

Buzzy beatles are related to spike tops, wich clearly have three legs. It is strange how buzzy beatles only seem to have 4 legs. I think I pointed this out somewhere. www.mariowiki.com/Buzzy_BeetleI'll look for some more official info in my games. I'm preatty sure they say it's a bug in PM:TTYD.

I like to take this time to point out that bony beattles apear to only have 2 feet. Para beattles from Super Mario Bros. 3 don't apear to have any legs or feet at all. The look alot different on the paper mario games though. In Super Mario Bros. 3 they don't even really look like buzzy beattles to me.

I think buzzy beatles are called beatles because of there shell. And if they were insects they wouldn't have a skeloton(bony beatles). And para-beatles proboly tuck in there legs in SMB3.
