Ok, so they obviously have a very sophisticed level of tech, even beyond us in certain aspects. They obviously have computers, electronics, indoor plumbing, internal combustion engines (probably), and moderate knowledge of physics and biology. YET, they still choose to use castles, swords, ect. The question is: why?

Why not? Castles can withstand much more than houses and are usually bigger. Really why not?

Because a stone castle is much less durable than a metal bunker. Although, in the Secret Weapons of the Koopa Klan thread we discuss that metal might be a rarity in the Marioverse, so I suppose it would make sense for them to use castles.

Yes it sure would.

Plus, to a simple person (as most in the Mushroom Dimension are) a large, brooding castle on a hillside is more terrifying than a sterile metal bunker.

Hi, i'm new. Anyway. Seeing the x-nauts, you can see, none of us saw them out there. We don't know where thay came from. We have NO clue what happend to them after the end. We DO know, thay had tech. Lots and lots of tech. I think that somehow 'someone' (more like some race) brought the Mushroom Kingdom though, from midevil, to modern-above modern If you look at Paper Mario One, you see an older looking stove in the Castle Kichen.

Perhaps it was humans. That's what i always thought. All humans came from, or are descendants of humans from the real world. It would be pretty hard for two identical species to evolve in two different dimensions with different environments. especially with the Mushroom World having all the other intelligent species in it.

I like my idea that the old castles are just leftovers of the war and there wasn't a point to take them down. Welcome aboard misty

Welcome to the forums, misty. ^_^
But yeah, it seems plausible that all the castles are relics left over from a previous era. After all, just look how many castles have been left standing in Europe from the middle-ages. Scotland alone has tons of them.

Exactly.
Hmm, what really makes the Mario World seem medival?
Is it just the castles or what?

Castles and open spaces, I think.

Castles and magic. Everybody seems to either forget or dismiss the magic.

And the use of swords, spears, and medieval armor.

*nod nod* Melee weapons and armor definately play a part in it.

I don't seem to remember any knights. Then again, I've never played a pre-64 game.
