"Never say die", says the trope so commonly used in the Mario franchise. This, however, appears nonchalantly ignored in Paper Jam towards the ending, where before the final battle with Bowser and his paper counterpart, one has another such one with Kamek and his.
In the Mario & Luigi series, a battle traditionally ends with the defeated enemy vanishing in a burst of stars, before exiting the battle. However, after clearing the Kamek boss battle, Mario jumps on the defeated wizard, making him vanish in the same burst of stars, outside of battle. It can be discussed what this implies, but to me it seems pretty certain that Kamek - the paper one too - is dead.
Of course, given how loose Nintendo is with their canon, I doubt they'll follow up on this, and just has him appear in the next game.
Thoughts?
